We all know that it takes astronomical sums of money to participate in F1, let alone win. I am curious as to how Jordan, Minardi and Sauber afford to keep showing up.

IIRC, Eddie Jordan is a former driver and is independently wealthy from something or other (what is it?). I think Minardi comes from a wealthy family (Fiat cars and trucks?) and Sauber is a big time industrialist and very wealthy as well.

Ok, so they're all rich, some drivers pay to drive, and they have some sponsors like Petronas et al. Also, I think they are partially subsidized by the "Big Three" (I remember Paul Stoddart complaining at some press conference last year (Montreal?) that they weren't getting the money they were promised).

Still, aren't they just bleeding money? How do they survive, let alone field a team. Anyone know?

Minardi is now funded by Paul Stodards money (he has a large aircraft leasing and parts business) and sponsorship. I do not think the Minardi family is involved at all anymore.

Yeah your correct about Paul Stoddart. He owns a company in the U.K named.... British Aerospace. Funnily enough i think it was a sponser of Mclaren back in the Mika days....correct me if im wrong.

Im thinking that most of those teams get a fair amount of money from merchandise, as most of the teams do. Don't think that because Minardi, Sauber etc... (the lower end teams), don't do that well at merchandise. They make an absolute killing from it!!

Other than that, if a team earns one point or more in the Championship, isnt their shipping and freight paid for all of the next year anyways??? Correct me if im wrong once again!!

Primarily sponsorship money, secondly TV money that gets redistributed by Bernie.

True, that Bernie pays for the shipping if you earn WC points, but the transportation costs are more of a nice bonus compared to the rest of the budget.

There is even prize money for the race results, but again not very important in the scheme of things.
