There definitely is a connection IMO. The Cali is exactly the same sort of car as the TR, a car made for the reasons that simply do not go with what Ferrari are supposed to be. Restrained 2+2's are alright, but directly making a poseur car is very sad. All ready too many poseur's owning Ferraris ... no need to encourage. Pete
Well, they won a few European Rallies, as well the Italian and Spanish Championships. It´s not a Ford Escort, but not so bad. And it´s more than what the so famous F40 won.
Some will tell you Ferrari's legend begins with the 512 TR's appearance on American TV: The Cali 2+ is aimed square at them.
Really? Got a source/link? That's way more success than I remember. The F40 was used quite competitively in GT racing IIRC.
The F40 managed to get pole a few times, but I don't believe it ever won a race ... ? Still an awesome car, and a real Ferrari. Pete
Okay did a little search and a F40 won the 1993 Italian GT1 Championship, and won the 1994 4 hours of Vallelunga and 1995/96 4 Hours of Anderstorp in the BPR Global GT Series. Pete
Meh, this is the first one I´ve found but it´s not very complete: http://www.rallyferrari.com/history.html I have a few nice articles about the issue, but in Spanish. Apart from the Italian and Spanish championships, the 308 also won the Tour de France, and the Targa Florio when it was a rally. To be accurate, the Italian championship was not entirely won by the 308, as Tognana (?) used a Lancia in the final races of the season. In Spain, apart from the Michelotto car, they also raced a 308 built by the Ferrari dealer of Barcelona. Way more success than the F40. But the 308 has not a big wing at the rear.
