I feel cheated having sat through all that marketing spin and a stomach-churning amount of fantastical analogies without seeing the car.

So I am guessing the Cayman S will cost b/t $60-70K. When is the Cayman S going to be introduced(what auto show)? I was hoping it would cost b/t $40-50K.

I don't understand. The prices are getting awful close to each other, as well as the performance. What is Porsche doing? If it was FE again I would maybe understand.

That wing is more embarrassing than it's function could make up for.

Also, do you see the Lotus Elise shapes on the sides - the sills, the side vents and behind the doors?...

More business for you ! :) Get busy...

Also is it me or does it look like that's a hatch back! Look at the square seam around the rear window...

Won't the wing only come up when you are going over a certain mph? I hope that is the case. If it fixed then it will look pretty foolish.

ryalex - do you have a spoiler on your WRX? Mine has it but I am not crazy about it. I think it looks better on my 04 due to the large hood scoop but I would have liked to have seen my car w/o it.

I am really into the idea of this car, but I'm not sure I see the justification for the price hike above the Boxster especially if production volume is comparable. On the other hand, I think dealers are going to have a difficult time getting buyers to let go of another 10k+ to get into a NA 911-maybe that's where the abysmal name comes in =)

Wait. Would it be ME with that kind of rear liftgate? Looks like it'd be FE......that, or the liftgate is totally useless....

Yes, but I'm not too wild about the shape of it. We had a choice of with and without and the 04's looked 'empty' without something there. I wanted the large STi wing, but my wife would have none of that.

I - and a whole lot of other Porsche tifosi - don't understand the rationale behind creating a layer between the Boxster and the 911. It looks and smells like the hardtop version of the Boxster! Why not leave it at that, instead of creating a "new" car, with an ugly name, at an inflated price.

The Boxster starting price point is about $44K. The 911 C2 starting price point is $70K. I guess you could slot the Cayman in between the two, but why risk oversaturating the brand?!

Well the Cayman is more or less just a boxster coupe, but calling it the "boxster coupe" would be pretty silly IMO. Boxer + roadster = Boxster. Calling it the boxster coupe would be like Boxer + roadster - roadster + hatchback = Boxter coupe. haha. I wish they had thought of something a little more race inspired for the name, not that crocidiles aren't fast.

It should have better performance than the Boxster S, so I suppose the price hike could be justified. I can't imagine it saturating the Porsche line-up though. At least this will bring car enthusiasts to Porsche to buy a sports cars, unlike the soccer moms flocking to the Cayenne. I could see a lot of these being tracked.

I hate the name - it's the skinnest and wimpiest looking of the croc/alligator family. Caymans are the only ones you can buy as pets in a lot of places. Now, a salt water croc, those are the real mean 20ft ones. Doesn't make a good car name.

I just think they said, 'hey let's find something with Cay____, since the Cayenne is 50% of our sales now..."

like the idea of new model but boxster coupe is not considered one. With a slip of the tongue, "Gayman."

I bet they're going to get lots of "delete model designation" requests for this one!

Maybe this'll turn out to be a de-fluffed version of the 911. Higher power to weight ratio, mid engine, better handling...

Maybe they'll even get rid of the wart and bring back the dipstick.
