    I have a great book on Weber Carburetors that was a good resource when rebuilding my 40 DCOE's on the 240 but I find that it covers just about everything EXCEPT the DCN's on my 308.

    I know there are a number of books on these but experience tells me some are better than others. Which is the best or most popular?

    Braden is good.
    Haynes is probably the best step by step.
    Pierce's tuning manual is another good source.
    All are worth buying.

    I have used Haynes for a number of other projects, they had info the others didn't.

    The Pierce tuning manual sounds like a must and of course the 308 carb tuning tutorial on Fchat.

    It will probably take longer for me to read through and absorb all of this than to actually do the work.:p

    I assume all will be found online.

    I just found a Braden book on the web and it looks to be the same one I have, the one that DOESN'T cover DCNF's. The Braden Book Maybe there is a different addition?

    This is a great thread, and a good question, Spasso.

    I'd also like to find a good resource for the 40DCZ/6 and 40DFI carbs found on 330s. (I can't remember which my car has; it's at home and I'm at work, otherwise I'd check.)

    I understand Strombergs, like 97s (a little), but the Webers intimidate me. I like the sound of stop-by-step, so should I get the Haynes manual?

    Haynes offers the best step by step and has a detailed section on DCNFs or similar. From memory, Braden covers the DCOE in his strip down. That said, they are all somewhat similar. Pierce has an excellent description of tuning and a hard to beat (visual) section on emulsion tubes for those into arcane detail.

    As to which is "best", the answer is "it depends". For me:
    - if you are stripping and rebuilding: Haynes
    - if you have modified and want a solid grounding in tuning: Pierce
    - good all round book: Braden

    P.S., I found I could strip, check and replace pretty much everything excepting throttle plates (which you'd need to do if you have shaft wear). If I can do it, any "weekend" mechanic can. Pierce has a wonderful selection of parts that enables you to replace all wear items (filters, gaskets etc) change jets and so on.

    I orderd the Haynes on line for 12.95 two days ago from Overstock.com. "It's about the O"

    I have to say that reading the Braden book, which explains a lot about the design philosophy of the Weber, took away a lot of the mystique surrounding the carburetor. Most of the systems are designed logically, at least on the DCOE's. They were designed to be used on the family Alfa during the week and then easily rejetted through the "Mickey Mouse Hat" on top and allowing the snap-in venturies to be changed from 40 mm to 45 mm (or even 48) for a little racing on the weekend. This is all done on the car without even draining the float bowl or opening the top of the carb body!

    There is also a humorous section in the Braden book explaining, or trying to explain, the bizzare numbering system of throttle bodies, main jets and emmulsion tubes. This is where the logic evaporates.


    I have never been into a DCNF but understand it was designed as more of a "street" type carb, slightly more complicated than the sidedraft.
