Last week, right after some rain, i was outside and found a tell dollar bill... When i picked it up, i thought it looked weird, but then thought it was just the weather...

Later, after it dried, i hesitated to spend it, 'cause it still looked weird... So yesterday, while in the bank, i decided to ask the clerk... Sure enough, it was a fake...

Did they let you keep it? is possession of a counterfit bill a crime or do you have to try to spend it?

Anybody ever seen those business cards that are folded in half and the outside looks like a folded $20 bill, and the inside has the information of whatever guy had them printed? Those are lots of fun to leave on the sidewalk and watch people from afar. :)

I hope you didnt give them your name and ID. If you did, you can bet the FBI is learning more about you right now than YOU know about you!

Dont forget about how this sort of thing works. If they cannot find someone else who made this fake bill, and you had the fake bill, then YOU must have made the fake bill. Logical? No, but then again we are talking about the Govt.

Remember how they originally made Pot illegal? They had no basis to justify simply outlawing it so instead they placed a tax on it. To pay the tax you had to take the cannabis/hemp to the Govt. taxation office to have it weighed. Then they would allow you to purchase the right number of tax stamps for it. The problem was that possessing it without tax stamps was illegal. When you went in to have it weighed and buy the tax stamps, obviously you didnt already have tax stamps and thus you were guilty of having it without having paid the tax. They arrested you. Catch-22. Go to jail now. A Texas farmer actually did 4 years in jail in the 1930s when this tax law was first enacted.

Well Terry, why don't they do the same thing when an illegal goes in to get a driver's license?????

What makes you think Carbon is not already on the FBI watch list?

Not that I want to add to Carbon's paranoia, but I think it's the Secret Service that actually investigates counterfieting.

so, since you kept it, which is odd... you can spend it in some pub on drinks somewhere, or act like you are throwing 10 bucks in that tip jar. cheap thrill I know.

I can't believe they gave it back....recently I rember reading about a guy that paid a bill with 100 crisp new $2 bills. The manager of the store calld the police who held him for a couple hours until the FBI showed up and told them the bills were real.

I could be wrong but I really doubt that he got it back from the bank. In fact I'd be willing to bet $10 he didn't get it back!

$10 for a lap dance will get you some thing else later on in a couple of months down the road! Recently, I was in a store and a guy handed this lady a dollar bill that was fake and she just gave it back to him and said it was a fake, so he left. I thought it was sort of wierd, but that was in Alabama so.....

LOL, Nahhh, Carbie is fine. The SS would have nailed him on the spot.

Looks like the ink is running off the paper, probably from one of those old ink jet printers BEFORE they installed that anti-counterfiet feature in modern printers.

Carb, you got a hell of an eye for something like that. If it was me I wouldnt celebrated a little, then without hesitation spent it. It looks real to me, the only thing i found after examination was the sides are a little wide.

Good thing your an honest guy, or you may have been in some trouble there.

I got a counterfeit Quarter as change a few years ago..... a little bizarre really. It's a perfect copy in every way exept it's not made of the right metals. A real quarter is a sandwich of different metals and the one I found appears to be made completely of one metal. The color is slightly off and it's just a little on the light side so I am pretty sure it's aluminum. I can't figure out why anyone would bother though. It would hardly be worth the effort to make bogus quarters that wouldn't even work in vending machines. Any ideas?

Mark, you have a silver quarter. It's pure silver. 1960's edition.

If you don't want it, I'll buy it from you for .25 ;)

Nope...... I have a few old silver quarters and would have known if it was one, I don't have it in front of my but IIRC the year stamped on it is 1992. I took it to a coin shop and once I pointed it out they recognized that it wasn't real and offered to do some kind of acid test to determine what it was made of but I said no.

My only recent odd money find was a penny that turned out to be from the United Arab Emirates.
