Has anyone read this book by Frederick Forsyth? Is it based off of a true story or all made up? Its a really good book. I couldnt set it down. I read the whole thing in 2 days.
Haven't read it but from reading the review on Amazon I'm guessing it's fiction..... I can recomend Jackal : The Complete Story of the Legendary Terrorist which although it isn't a truely spectacular book is pretty good and gives a decent view on the life of one of the more notable terrorists of the 20th century.
Original movie was great when it came out. Will probably appear dated now. The Bruce Willis version that came out a few years ago was terrible. They changed the whole story. But as a mindless action/suspense film, it's not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
No, the movie was quite brilliant - it pretty much used the book as the screen play, nearly verbatim. Edward Fox did a great job of the character, and they used the identical Alfa Romeo Guiletta Spider described in the book. ... unless you're talking about that Bruce Willis abomination of a remake that stole the title and not much else. In that case, you really owe it to yourself to see the original movie.
Apologies for not clarifying. Was talking about the Willis remake. Have not seen the original, but it is on my list to watch.
I read the book several years ago and I believe it's loosely based on actual events surrounding one of the assasination attempts on DeGaulle. First movie was ok, but the remake with Willis wasn't worth watching. When I see a trained military/para-military person refer to a rifle as a "gun", I laugh.
The book is fiction although it does have some facts in it; it's a great read. The original movie is great and is faithful to the book. Never saw the Bruce Willis version because everyone said it blows. If you liked the book definitely rent the original movie.
Carlos the Jackal is not the same as the terrorist featured in the movies, 'The Day of the Jackal.' I think the Day of the Jackal was based on a real Algerian plot to kill DeGaulle. The original film is brillian, as is the book. Forsyth's 'The Fist of God' is also a great modern 'terrorist' thriller.
I havent seen the original movie but I have seen the Bruce Willis version which was crap. I will have to read his other books. I loved this one.
Golly, I was not aware that there was such a thing as a Bruce Willis remake of "Day of the Jackal". Did he smirk through the whole thing? I haven't read the book, but I still watch the original movie almost every time it comes around. I love it when the head honcho asks the inspector, "How did you know which of our phones to tap?" and he answers, "I didn't, so I tapped all of them".
Its a mixture of fact and fiction...I think we should all get our money back! That was my joke for the night......The original is a great movie.
Yup. My condolences to you, on your lost innocence of the remake. Stupid Hollywood can't come up with any new story ideas, and keep regurgitating remakes. The >>ONLY<< movie remake I want to see, is The Hobbit. Hope Peter Jackson can get the rights to it, the original animated movie was c***.
I read the book years ago. He was the master of disguise. The same author also wrote, "The Dogs of War." It was a pretty good book too. Bob Wassam
