Really just doesn't get much better!
Those pictures of your Aston Martin look like something out of a coffee table art book! Did the Aston Martin people send you any photo record of the work progress on the car? Have to ask is the TdF a fourteen louver 1957 version or the later version model?
Yes I have about 350 pictures of the whole DB5 restoration. It's pretty cool. The TdF is the first single louvre 0895gt delivered march 1958. It is the only TdF I know of that has a color film of the car coming out of the factory in 1958. It was given to me by the descendants of the first owner. It has been restored to exactly the original spec and it drove back out of the factory about 10 days ago exactly as it looked 57 years ago!
By the way the I should have attributed the pictures with the black background to the guys at the Aston Workshop. They took those pictures before they delivered the car. The pics in the garage etc are mine. Agree they did a super job of capturing the car.
Congratulations Mark. What a car. Restored to perfection and the fact you plan on driving it on a regular basis is the cherry on the cake. Stunning addition to a very, very nice collection. Cheers, M
Thank you for sharing the details about the photographs Mark. That 1958 TdF sounds pretty special to!
My father used to drive a DB5 back in the day and whilst as a kid I loved it, I never really appreciated it's true beauty which has just slowly grown. Consequently it looks far better today than it ever did in period, the sign of a classic. His was the exact same colour and then he made the mistake of going to a tractor, otherwise known as a DB6. Beautiful car, beautiful restoration, beautiful photos - congratulations. Who did the restoration?
Thank you Tim. The restoration was done by Aston Workshop. Super guys. You should try and buy back your father's old DB5! When I was growing up in Rome, the one car we had the whole time was a bright yellow Fiat 500L (definitely no Astons in our household!), which was bought new in 1970 and owned for over 30 years. Eventually it was time for it to go and at the time I was living in London and didn't really have anywhere to park it and so it was sold. Now I so bitterly regret not having it. I have tried to track it down by no luck.
You are right Mark, I should but my garage is considerably smaller than yours, living in the centre of London, and full, that is my two F cars. After the Aston days, I fought to get my father to transfer his Aston affection to Ferrari and so we converted to a 246 GTS and thus started his days of F car infection. Unfortunately we will probably always live in town and two car garages are rare enough without finding a home for an Aston, besides which there are a couple of cars in your amazing collection which would have preference, starting with the 275...... Incidentally, I could almost tell you what all the switches are for as those shots , particularly the interiors, are just so evocative to me, and seeing them, i remember spending days in that black passenger seat cruising across Europe en route back from Italy.
I think one of these days your wife is going to log on to Ferrarichat.com and find out all the fun you are having at her expense. Just saying....
Absolutely beautiful. I happened to meet a DB5 a couple of weeks ago while I was out in my red car. I was blown away. His license plate was"Skyfall"
I thought it would have been quite rude not to take the car for a dusk drive while the county lanes were empty ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
