I am speechless. Received this sad news today. "Ian Campbell was tragically killed on Monday morning in a motor vehicle accident near Goulburn."
was a very well known member in NSW, not only in the Farrari Club but was also a member of many other car club - Alfa, BMW and many more.
sad news Judit, condolences to the family and all the close FCA members to him. always sad to lose a tifosi
Ian was a larger than life "car guy" and a very active member of the Ferrari Club Australia from Canberra. He was a prolific contributor to the Ferrari Club magazines and attended many club events over recent years, the most recent the Ferrari Club V12 rally last week. His automotive interests were very broad, he has been an enthusiastic owner of Bentley's, Porsche's BMW's Mercs and Alfa's and and active club member of most of these clubs at one time or another, as well as being involved in the organising committe of Auto Italia for a number of years. A spirited and skilled driver, I was surpised to hear he was involved in a single accident. I spoke to Ian only last week and was looking forward to catching up with him at Auto Italia. His enthusiasm, charm and wit will be missed by all that knew him, and he could talk cars for hours, and genuinely knew what he was talking about. He is survived by his wife and teenage son. Hi Mike, long time since we've spoken as well. Was Ian in one of his Ferraris at the time ? Were the conditions bad on the day ? Single vehicle accidents can happen out of the blue , I know , very sad news no matter what the circumstances John
When we arrived at the rally, Ian was in the carpark of the Motel,, doling out Champagne to those arriving. I heard the news this afternoon on the way back from the rally. Totally shocking, he was not in the Ferrari apparently. Condolences to all.
The big man with an even bigger sense of humour, apparently was in a Lancia Betta, and there is talk, of a heart attack, last year on the red line run I in a BMW and Ian in a bentley R had a race i'm still suprised how fast he could peddle the bentley and keep it on the black stuff, this is a sad loss.
Ian's funeral service will be held 11 AM on Thursday, 2nd of March at Hloy Rosary (Blackfriars ) Parish Church, Phillip Avenue, Watson ACT M
I was lucky to meet Ian at the Mid way rally in Orange. He was a very friendly fellow who obviously loved his autos and wrote some excellent articles. I corresponded with him a couple of times and enjoyed reading his articles. Ian was one of the fastest of the day at the air field where we all suffered a little tar on the car. A big man but he could sure peddle that car, his son attended tha rally with his dad and my condolences go to his family. I found Ian to be a very generous and gentlemanly fellow. Sad to see this post. regards Tony
