When Hollywood can't get the story right of political or whatever reason why bother?
If you haven't read anything about Greek mythologi there are so many pieces missing for the audience to even understand parts of the story.
The beautiful Helen didn't follow young Paris to Troy, she was abducted.
Achilles was made unvulnerable by his mother when she dipped him in the river Styx (the river you had to cross to get to the kingdom of death) and since she held him by the heel that became his week spot (aka achille's heel).
Not anywhere do they mention him being a halfgod or explain why he can take five arrows in the chest but fall dead when he get an arrow in his heel.
In mythology he was shot in the heel with a poisoned arrow.
And Achilles brother in arms, Patroklos, was his lover, but hey! this is homophobic Hollywood right! so we just leave that...
    etc. etc. etc.
As an action movie I think it's great but when they distort the original story like this why pretend it's even loosely based on something...

Very simple. To make money. Do you think big hollywood cares about historical archeology or staying true to original stories? Why would they?

I loathed how every 3 minutes there was reference to "names living forever" "history not forgetting... " blah-blah-blah. Ironically the theme of a not-so-memorable movie.

It is interesting how they try and give you more sympathy for the hunky star characters by changing the story. Or maybe abduction was too bad for the PC crowd so they made it a more 'socially acceptable' mutually consenting illicit affair instead. Feminists could be proud of Helen taking charge of her destiny this way.
