The DMV should play fair with car owners!

A buddy of mine told me that his '89 Honda Accord was 'summoned' to a Smog Only check station for it's every two-year smog check. He said that the DMV does this on 1/100 cars. In stead of going to a $29.95 smog check place (That has other mechanical services), he had to bring his car to a specialty smog station that does ONLY smog checks. The fee for this smog only check was $69.95.

I have a problem with this! Since his car passed, he's out $30-$40 Vs going to a cheap smock check outlet and saving the difference.

I think that if the DMV is going to mandate this and your car passes, they should give you a 50% credit on your registration to cover the added expense and time to find and visit the specialty smog-only shop.

I think I'll write the state to see if initiating a bill to give drivers a registration rebate would be considered.
