Started my 458 with no issues, drove about five miles or so and the Engine Control System Failure alert came on. Have let the car sit and restart a few times now and it still comes on.

Have the New Power warranty on her but before I go to the time and effort to ship my car 100 miles to the nearest dealer, thought I might ask you all what have been the issues you’ve had when this alert occurs.

First time, secondary air injection system, was a cracked vacuum hose to the exhaust valves. Had to remove bumper, $800 cost.

2nd time, evaporative system, at dealer for 2 weeks, can’t find a leak in the system so far.

Most commonly battery issue. There can be enough voltage to start the car but the low voltage throws the sensors off. Could be the battery, or the charger. Dealer can sort out or you could replace.

According to your bill cause seemed to be: "sticking valves" …

We have been reading more and more about this. So it may hit us all …. soon ?

How can we clean that ? Or need to drive faster ?

    Who can tell us ….

I am a big fan of exercising all of my equipment, including the 458. That means varying the speeds, occasional high RPM, et . Driving faster is difficult in FL, however. The cops use laser all over.

Did I tell you what I got for Christmas? A K40..........

    @ Did I tell you what I got for Christmas? A K40..........@

    Lucky YOU !

Let me guess William: is that a superfine radardetector ? The best and quietest long range police radar detector for speeding ticket protection?

Is it the K40’s latest and greatest radar detector setup: the RL360di radar detector or the K40 RLS2 Portable Radar detector ?

Tell us (with photo's please and in the car :) )

    Melvin,

Yes, but it’s not installed yet. Slated for end of January. I can’t deal with getting shot by laser anymore.

$800 for bumper removal? My wrapper did it for $250 and I’m going to do it myself in feb to install an exhaust. Dealership prices are insane.

Thank you for posting that though. I think I’ll replace those hoses while the bumper is off for piece of mind.

#1 If you are getting that error, then go buy a $20 OBD reader, super easy to plug in rite under steering wheel, read the code and report back..thats the first thing you have to do to even begin to understand the problem -Engine control unit Failure comes on for a million diff things.

After 3 trips to dealer latest diagnosis was bad spark plug and coil. Both replaced. We will see if it happens again.
