To those of you who have gone from a Ferrari with a manual shifter to a paddle shifter, do you ever miss the stick and a purpose for your left foot in the driving experience?

I traded my first Ferrari (a 360 spider 6 speed) for a new 458. The F1 on the 458 is amazing and really provides an unbelievable driving experience; a whole different level from anything I have ever owned or driven. In my opinion it has no competition. Having said that I missed the raw feel of my 6 speed so I found another one. Now I am truly fortunate to have the best of both worlds. They are completely different animals but I love driving both of them for the unique driving experience they provide.

Went from 348ts to 360 Spider F1. Love the change, feel more in control with both hands on the wheel. 348 was fun though....
Left foot does have a purpose...makes use of the new dead pedal from Ricambi... ;)

Worth reading some of the previous threads in the 360/430 & 550/575 sections - quite a frequent question

    Still have a manual 328.

But recently went from a manual EVO VIII to an EVO X with paddle shift.
The Getrag twin-clutch (similar to the Getrag used in the 458 Italia) seems to be a large improvement over first generation paddle shifts.

I hadn't owned a two pedal car since the Nixon era, but I'm liking the Getrag more than I thought I would.

The upshifts are like manual -- except a lot faster.

I do miss being able to shove in the clutch approaching a stop, though.
I'm having to explore the down-shift process in much greater detail.
I'm still getting used to the box down-shifting *immediately* when you pull that left lever, so I'm having to delay down shifts rather than selecting a lower gear and waiting for when to release the clutch.

I kinda wish it'd let you select neutral by pulling both paddles. ;)

my 430 spider is an f1, but i have a 997 turbo that is a 6 speed so i get best of both worlds...love the f1 in the 430

i have been told by ferrari folks that the 430 was made to have the f1, that it really wasn't made to have a stick...neither ere nor there...there is a reason all of the new cars are f1

Ferrari to Ferrari I have no comparison. F1 430 to z06 it's just different. I could always pull 1-1.5 seconds faster a lap with F1 over manual. Overall feel I will always need 1 car to have 3 pedals for the feel and connection. I like to challenge myself so ideally I need two identical cars and try to best my paddle times with my stick shift times.

Miss a 3rd pedal? Yes. Go back to 3 pedals after F1? NFW.Like missing a manual choke or a distributor for nostalgia purposes. No place in a modern car. Get a relic from yesteryear if the need is great. Bruce

And someday you will be able to buy a Ferrari transporter and your paddle shifters will be a relic. You will arrive at your destination with a Ferrari red background with a yellow logo centered on the back wall. It will play retro sounds of yesteryear Ferrari automobile engines. You won't be able to beat its track times.

In the 458, the time between upshifts to the redline at full throttle is about 2 seconds. No way I can shift a manual that fast. Would lose huge amounts of speed between shifts.
