Frank Williams lovable? I am not so sure about that. Not only Williams always appears rather dour, but it always looked to me that drivers were mere commodities in his team. There aren't many drivers who can say they have "gelled" at Williams, even when they have been very successful. Mansell, Damon Hill and Prost were unceremoniously told to leave at the year where they were world champions! Some other drivers don't have fond memories of their time at Williams: Derek Daly, Raph Schumacher, Mark Webber and Pastor Maldonado, for example, have commented how distant Sir Frank is with his drivers.
+1 I'd hate to see Mclaren leave. F1 can't afford Mclaren to leave as well...because if they can leave (or rather have to because of $$ reasons), other small teams are very likely to follow.
I was referring not so much to Frank himself, but the whole team. Can he be a bastard? No doubt. I'm sure they all can - they have to be to survive in the piranha tank after all. As to him being "distant" with his drivers, that's (probably) very true. However, I suspect largely because he's seen quite a few die over the years - the same "criticism" was leveled at the Old Man many times. Colin also had the same reputation, at least after he lost Jimmy. As for being "told to leave" as champions; It's his team and he figured there was better (& likely cheaper) talent available when he was on the top of the pile. Most here know my feelings on "our Nige", and most agree Damon, while a nice guy, wasn't a true "tier one" jockey. And Alain is, of course, French! [No disrespect Nero! ] But I still have a "soft spot" for the team. Cheers, Ian
Mclaren now have a leasing program for all of their cars. McLaren Financial Services Launched - 570S, 650S, P1 Available to Lease
I don't know if they didn't, but i remember them talking about doing it earlier. Maybe now its been finalized?
Well said. I hear this a lot and have never understood this perspective. They lost the championship because they cheated.
This is the only reply in this entire thread I could read before commenting. Luckily it was the first. Don't worry, our financial troubles are over we borrowed more money.... Problem solved...
Ouch! [And maybe true ] [I could be wrong, as always, but seem to recall at least one, if not both, of their cars "failing to qualify" many years back....] Is the "blame" with Honda or Uncle Ron though? Cheers, Ian
The embarrassment already happened at the beginning of the season. If you're surprised, shocked, embarrassed for them now, then you've just tuned in.
