As we get closer this would be a nice idea. Dale In the end as you say enery thing speaks for itself. IMO this is one that I could simply park on Main Street in Homer, Ill. and sooner or later her story would be known...
oh please do!!! I live about 15 minutes outside of Homer in Champaign - Just curious - what made you think of Homer? Peter
Joe Kern of Custom Fab and Welding who restored/modified my Lola used to live there. I think he's now over in Ogden. Best
Answering all the inquiries in this thread has become a full time job! Renumeration shall be forthcoming.
Jim, It is great to hear someone is back at building one-offs, IMO your car will be in a class by itself because it is going to be built by a real enthusiast, you are involved in the desing and building process so you are sure the car will be fully functional and without flaws. I say this because I have a very good friend who used to be the head Ferrari mechanic for the Sultan of Brunei and has told me many stories about the one-off cars owned by the Sultan, he didn't design them, Pininfarina would be working constantly in new projects, and went to Brunei every once in a while to show Prince Jefri what they had, and he would choose some and order 7 or 8, but these cars were not really functioning vehicles, they were built only to sit at the garage, and they had lots of defects, like the F90 where wind would go inside the cabin while driving and the car would not drive properly, the F50 Bolide never worked, the FX had problems with the gearbox, so I think you are really going to have really special car. It is great to know there are real enthusiasts like you fulfilling their dreams, and letting others see what it is like to have this experience. I look forward to seeing the car at Pebble Beach and wish you the very best for the project. Regards, Jose
Thanks. Few have any idea how much goes into making a one off car that functions. It took massive work but my Lola is now a great GT car that doesn't over heat, has working AC, lights that light up the road, wipers that wipe away the rain, and can drive from NY to LA without a problem. P 4/5 will do all of that and more... Image Unavailable, Please Login
beautiful! It is really nice to see someone who has such a passion and respect for the vehicles that you do. I've enjoyed reading this thread, thanks for the insight.
JESUS! I just realised what this thread was about. Seen it the other day but couldnt get the time to read it (thats a lie). Anyway, this creation does sound fabulous and it sure is going to be an nail-biter up until its release...... On you go Jim!
Part of me has always been longing for the days of proper coachbuilding where instead of buying "off the shelf", if you will, wealthy enthusiasts would commission someone to build the car of their dreams. Some of my favorite vintage Ferraris are one-offs or limited-build cars. To hear that you're doing this blows me away. Forget about the money, the time and dedication needed to sustain the project must be immense. Can't wait to see the finished product?
Sure Jim, I'll sell you the T-shirt.. but someone else needs to tell me if it's worth 400k or 14M before I do that.
You can check out my limited seris T-Shirts (no more than 10 of any design ever done) and obscure car books at http://stusautomobilia.etsy.com/ Only 1 Ferrari item at the moment... Stu
Not sure if this has been covered (long thread... only going to get longer!): Are you using the engine from the Enzo as is (with the exception of the aformentioned exhaust changes)? Or have you involved engine people as well as the designers from Pinin? Congrats. Can't wait to see it!
We're looking at everything but whatever we do will be within EPA/DOT regulations. I'm off to Torino to see the Olympics and check things out. Best
Dude, you've got to leave horsie on the plenum. Even if the engine is re-plumbed it's still a Ferrari . Speaking of which, when you're in T-town, take images of the mechanicals (along with the exterior). You can at least post those when you get back as they won't expose the car before PB. Even when you unveil it there, people won't get a look of the radiator et al. Have fun at the Olympics. Go Saun White. -F
If you have a chance, you should go to the big auction at Luzzago on the 25th (www.lugazzo.com). They have a VERY interesting Alfa 1900 for sale that was rebodied in the 1960s, and looks like a 250 SWB!!! I'm bidding on the mint condition Alfa giulietta sprint coupe from here...it's a super-rare 1955 column shift version normale, with the small headlamps...
