found this on break.com. Looks like this car has New York plates! http://www.break.com/pictures/bb955.html
Check the website on the car at http://www.ferrarip45.com. You're questions and more are probably answered there (no VIN yet, will have that Friday for sure).
incredibly off-topic;but i have a minor gripe.most tifosis here seem to be hyper-impressed by this tarted up enzo(which is surely one of the best supercars out there),going on about how great the design is,how it pays homage to the outstandingly gorgeous original, etc?if you put them side by side.... the new car is incredibly awkward and dare i say it,contrieved! it's the same with the "new" and original lamborghini miura! i just wish ferrari had taken advantage of lambo's "design slip". i blame this all on.... the VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE!!!!!!!! it's sad,but here's a PRODUCTION car chronology(i may have left out a few!):- 1)1998 VW NEW BEETLE 2)2000 BMW Z8 3)2003 FORD MUSTANG 4)2003 FORD GT 5)2006 FERRARI P4/5(!!!!!!) 6)2008 CHEVY CAMARO 7)2008 DODGE CHALLENGER 8)200* LAMBO MIURA.... the list goes on.what's next?a "new" testarossa?at least there's hope out there, bentley and aston martin have a knack of styling cars SIMILAR to the classics and yet look bang up-to-date.pininfarina really need to be careful... as i feel ferrari wouldn't do too badly looking at some BERTONE and ZAGATO designs!
Uhhh the ford GT was never intended to be retro, just re worked. Not sure aobut the Z8 but that seems like a new design to me. P4/5 is a continuation of the original p-cars. I don't think you really know what you are talking about.
"dude",retro IS reworked.it goes for fashion, accessories, design, etc.if its exactlythe same but with a few modern touches.i am in design, and usually have to deal with RETRO stuff,as it's still "hot",incredibly. but a carmaker as prestigous as ferrari/lambo have to be more avant garde.the murcie, for example;is a fine design, but it's still based on the sillhoute and proportions of the legendary 1971 lp500.which is kind of sad, actually.a supercar needs to break design moulds and defy convention.ford should have been braver with the gt,as they came up with the spectacular gt90 concept in the 90s. ferrari had awesome designs in the late 80's.the f40 was outrageous, the f328 and testarossa were ahead of it's time and the mythos concept is fantastic. it's just sad that pininfarina haven't given us a truly original shape that pays merely homage to the original p330 and not rip it off.even the new camaro is more original!
the z8 is a rework of the beautiful albrecht goertz original(bmw 507),the p4/5 a continuation?wtf?!?!the p series ferraris are prototype race cars, not tarted up supercars.they were made for le mans and prototype gt testing back in the 60s and 70s.however,the 512 p is an anomally(and never raced) back in the 90s.theres an ancient saying: "bodoh sombong". 'nuff said.
Or it could also be a car out of one mans dream. The glearing difference with the cars in that list is all of them are productions....except one...
good point.i'm all into custom coachbuilt vehicles(the halcyon days of the 30s through the 60s);but i was just stating the decline of contemporary automotive design.if ferrari can succumb to this dreaded (and IMHO unnecessary) RETRO wave, then car and particularly exotic car design will not move forward.the p4/5 IS attractive, but reeks of "been there, done that".if i want a supercar with forward-looking but retro details, the recent ferrari zagato is a good example.so is the db7 zagato, bentley conti gt,aston db9 and so forth. the 360 modena was indeed inspired by the awesome dino, but at least it moved the game forward. i'd be ashamed if my grandkids show up one day in a carbon copy of an 80s supercar.that's why i'd also smack anyone saying that porsche has a "progressive" design philosophy.
finally, here's the difference between GORGEOUS and "OK"... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What car would you consider is retro from Ferrari? I certainly do not think the Enzo, 612, 599, F430, etc.. is retro by any means. Ferrari didn't build this car, just gave it a blessing, Pininfarina did. If you feel this car isn't forward-looking enough, that is your opinion, but I disagree, I think it's a forward car with hints of the past. 80's design doesn't do much for me either, a little too boxy for my tastes, but then again I don't think much came out of the 80's that I like as it is (clothes, music..), and also Porsche does not push the envelope in design, but then again, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Andri That's not a P4 it's a kit car. As an aside that's not P 4/5 either. It's a photo shop of a 9 month old styling model not a car. Best
beg to differ...i view these cars as different and their contributions to the zeitgeist are entirely different. one car was built to win races for the factory and the other is a triumph of the modern rapid design and fabrication process giving expression to one individuals dream. thats all. the situation as posed here does not lead itself to impugning any party of a lack of anything. most established paths to success are evolutionary rather than revolutionary. as always all opinions are personal. but consider this angle. 0.02
You know, we could get into a big discussion if peaches are pink or orange, but i really don't care. Jim intended for p4/5 to be a continuation off of the original p-cars IIRC. Hence the numbers. Lastly, since you know so much about design lets see what YOU think p4/5 should look like, go ahead post some pictures of your sketches, try and make it look better then it does. Honestly i want to see what you can come up with, because i'm all for breath taking designs. EDIT: you know what is even funnier, you can't tell an original from a kit, that just says it all right there.
Although you consider it "funny" that he can't tell a kit from the original, try to find people who can. Jim, I would expect, would have a lot of knowledge about them because he owns one, but 99.9% of people can't tell the difference. I know I can't. If you have any tell tale signs that you can find that show that you can tell the difference I think you should quit picking internet fights. Someone's opinion is worth only that of anyone else's opinion. I would like to hear the "tell-tale" signs of a replica compared to a real P4 or P3/4. I remember Jim saying something about the nose being different. Peter Hatch
I look at it like this, any new car is exciting. It dosent matter if it has some design ideas from the past or is 100% new, the point is simple I love cars and new cars are awalys great, even if they arnt exotics. its fun isnt thats what its all about?
Jim you don't need telling, but that beast is awesome. I was watching the video of you putting it through its paces in Italy, and as you passed those gates/barriers on the motorway, you floored, man, that sound is to die for. Sounds so much like an F1 but you can still hear the Enzo underneath. Do you think it is possible to achieve that type of sound on a regular Enzo, with a custom exhaust? I would love to hear that one day, screaming like a banshee, and it just zings into the distance. Oh, that car is just magic. Congrats again mate! PS: In the US, what are the noise regulations like? Is the P4/5 fine?
Peter As Sharon stone said: Anyone with 7 bucks knows I don't wear underwear. You must learn to use your eyes. The difference between that kit and a real P4 are as clear as the fact that Sharon doesn't wear underwear. P 4/5 is within noise regs. Best
