Is this somthing the Skunkwerz is doing ? Do you have any ideas about how to proceed ? Where can I look for ideas ? Andy
Tim and I are going to be dyno testing next week. I'm bringing the modified intake for testing, Tim is bringing the Motronic programing know how. If this works I think it will be able to fill the 80% of owners Tim is talking about. Did you order a set of 4 hole injectors yet?
The 1975 rule has people in CA confused. From 1975 and earlier, you get a pass on smog testing and compliance so far as you pass a visual of all smog related OEM items. They don't even have to work. For example you could have a smog pump mounted and spinning but it doesn't have to really pump anything, so long as it appears original. The rule was intended to apply on a moving scale to cars 25 years or older. It was frozen around 2000 and never allowed to migrate. Schwarzenegger tried to unfreeze the hold, but it never happened. The other rule is the Federal rule of 25 years for show cars and vehicles of interest that get an exemption for safety and emissions. I also see the potential for the modded 348 engine against the stock 355, but one has to also consider the potential to mod a 355 as well. Ernie's comparison avoids that, but we get the point of the 348 motor. It has potential. Personally I always thought the 355 engine delivered its performance gains over the 348 purely due to the TB's and revs. As for Ferrari doing a good job with the 348 engine given the times and technology, I am not convinced of this after 1992. It was pretty obvious that the engine was down on power and could be upgraded. They chose not to develop the model any further, instead putting all their R&D into the next generation. I get that this was a business decision. We would have all done this as well. You only have to look at the racing derivatives of the 348 engine to see its potential., Surely the factory knew.
Oh yeah. Uh....no....no we didn't talk.....I have no idea where that came from.....uh.....I have to go......hey what's that over there.......... LOL
Thanks Vince, this is exactly how I understand it as well; however I have heard from fellow club members though (post 1975' cars) that the enforcement has been mixed. Here is Fchat member that posted last Oct that he had to get a smog one year, and then wasn't required 8 years prior that.(go figure) (we have a 2 year renewal period) - he also mentioned some people got around it by renewing at AAA. I figure I'll do it anyway since it has lower reg fees and I like the look of the plate. Appreciate you guys chiming in here. Have a good one!
Actually, in the case of the megasquirt, dual knock sensors. Traction control. Individual coils with full sequential fuel for each cylinder. Dual O2 (or even individual O2 or individual EGT in my case). I even have WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities to talk to either my laptop or tablets, and I certainly don't want to neglect the CAN Bus which can communicate directly to my dash unit. It's really crazy what a sub $1,000 ecu is capable of today. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
It is pretty amazing what modern technology is capable of, and at a reasonable price. Whatcha doing for the loom?
Building it myself. I used to be an avionics tech in the USAF trouble shooting and rewiring F-15's, I still need to scavenge a few of the original connector, but I will just install new pins where needed and pull the old pins and wires out where possible and source new connectors for some of it. I have a masterset of new DTM and Delphi connectors for the harness and various bulkhead connectors as well. I am using all new connectors for things like the injectors, coil packs, and some of the other sensors. I will probably just repin the crank and cam sensors. The O2 sensors and EGT sensors are all new wiring and connectors. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Has Mega Squirt transformed your 355? I installed Mega Squirt 2 on my Porsche 944. I have no regrets, the car is faster, more responsive and has better fuel economy thanks to using wideband O2 sensors.
Still in progress on the installation, but I have little doubt of the eventual outcome. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
Yes, there is a lot going on with the whole project. Motor and interior are out. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk
