This is my first post here at F-Chat, so pardon me if push your buttons. I've been lurking for a week or so and just had the most brain twisting question. Can any of the newer models, excluding the Enzo and the F50, run at the track as fast as the F40. I want an honest answer, but am hoping for a no. whoooooo hooooooooo!!! go red car go

I have heard the 599 is supposed to be very comparable if not better around a track. Of course thats just speculation I have picked up around the forums, no lap times to justify it.

No matter how good a car was in its heyday, there will always be something faster ten years down the road. Even within a company this is necessary to show its customers that they are striving for the best, or "outdoing themselves."
No one would want an Enzo to be slower around a track than an F40 because it's unnatural.

F40 brakes really suk, but once you replace those then an F40 can give a 430 challenge a workout :)

F claims the 599 is better ON PAPER, but I think an F40 will smoke that on a track too bcus the 599 is just too heavy

I'd agree. The problem comes down to 1980s brakes versus modern brakes, as well as all of the computerized traction bits on the newer cars. (Assume tires are modern all the way around by now...)

An average joe would probably do better in F430 or 599 -- pretty much idiot-proof with all the computers doing the work for you.

But I'd still take the F40.

Sure some newer cars can beat a F40....BUT they are not a F40.

The F40 is free from all the electronic nannies....it is a PURE drivers machine.

I was the happy owner of an F40 stradale as well as an F40 LM GTE, in the same time I was driving an F360 stradale. So its obvious that it is more "easy" to run fast on a track with a 360 stradale, but the feeling is really different: the F40 is a real "man" car, no assistance, no electronic help...
It is quite easy today to change the brakes of an F40 for LM type or "new" brakes such as 430 challenge or 575 GTC (brembo or AP racing). Today in France several people are looking for F40 to boost them for track: LM brakes and suspension, 550 to 600 hp, 18 wheels to support modern tyres, new second gear and reinforced gear box, and most important, still road "legal" (on the paper).
And then, if your are good enouth with a big heart, you can really beat more or less anybody with modern cars, simply because you are running a turbo car, 1250 kg, modern brakes and tyres, with 500 to 600 hp.

So, I am looking on the possibility to buy back again an F40, just for real fun!
