Nah, the hard part is just getting it right in the first place. Once it is right it is just a matter of care, attention and the odd bit of TLC.

I did the big job on my 355 Challenge and then constantly tracked it for 2 years before selling it in perfect nick. Not that difficult to be honest.

Phil did a lot of chasing for the parts starting from the Tubi system itself (part of a 3 full systems order) right on through the job. Saved a lot of time and money which was appreciated. There was a LOT of stuffing about sourcing the bits at fair prices as Phil has touched on briefly.

Unlike the F40 ,the brakes on the F50 are just fine for track work in my experience. A 1 minute 47 sec lap at the island is as fast as I want to go in it and there was zero hint of any brake trauma.

That is kind of the point. If it doesn't look "bling"; but also doesn't look worn out, the job is about right. You want it to look as it did the day it left the factory.

Tubes everywhere, so not sure what you mean?

You can see some of the pipes for the on board fire system in the photo, which is obviously non-factory. The nozzles are pointed in various directions.

Did you fit that fire suppression system SD? Or was it fitted before you? How big is the bottle on board? Has it got the 'pyro tube' in the engine bay, that sets it off automatically when it melts from fire? Or do you have to activate it from in the cab? Is it an SDS Ausminco system........with a NPF2000 head? Have you ever serviced it?

You can see the bottle in this picture. The activation switch is in the cockpit just below the dash. Fire can easily write off a carbon fibre tubbed car. Hence the system.......

    NFI on the other stuff.

Thanks mate. Did you get that system fitted? If it hasnt been looked at for a while, it may to get someone to check it out. Last thing you need is the car to catch fire and the fire suppression not working. :p:p Especially if it hasnt been looked at for a few years? :)

System is at most 12mths old. Phil fitted it as soon as I got the car.

    Moving right along....

In retrospect this turned out to be a total WOFTAM. The car showed 2850km when I got it and the ECU readouts using the dealer SD2 indicated the same.
Drove it around for a bit (including the WA rally last year) and it started to be noisy and take up was at top of pedal. So in the course of the job, it was the time to take a look see what was going on. Now getting the parts was a total PITA as previously indicated and there was time pressure as I intended to go to the FCA Tasmania rally (until work intervened). So I bit the bullet and decided to order the parts as I would have missed the rally if they had to be ordered when the car was in bits with 2 weeks to go till the boat left......

Predictably there was minimal wear; but the thrust bearing was worth replacing. So I elected to put the new clutch in and I have a near new spare for the future.

Photo 1- new and old clutch plates plus flywheel

    Photo 2- new clutch

    Photo 3- old thrust bearing

Photo 4- new thrust bearing fitted

Next time (when I work out how exactly to do it), video/sound of dyno runs before and after including dyno charts. Also professional sound recordings taken at Phillip Island test day last week.

    :)

what I'm astounded by Scott is the complex engineering that has gone into this car, the QV seems absolutely simplistic compared to this .

But then when this car was being designed it was touted as an F1 car for the road and you can see lots of F1 input.
