Ugly as sin (a mixture of Mitsuoka and TVR) and probably an aerodynamic nightmare. Ferrari is a forward looking company that focuses on modern, aero driven, design. Something similar could be launched as an Icona series car though.

There is a fundamental problem with doing retro; the old cars upon which these retro designs are based were much smaller compared to today's modern cars. Quite simply the small car scale and those small wheels do not translate well into a modern package of a much larger scale.
The Monza for example while being of a pleasing appearance is huge size and weight wise...

It’s neither. It’s a pathetic attempt at a cash grab. A regurgitation of a design that already exists. This design has no originality or innovation or integrity. It’s drivel from a hack.

    Agreed

In general I'm completely against the fact of applying something old on something new. If you like the old , buy the old

But in this case, I respect the general harmony of the thing, considering the number of horrendous attempts you see often

No. Good retro is still original, Monza for example.

I think the renders look absolutely amazing but if Ferrari would make a modern version of the 250 GTO or any other car it would have to be a icona car. To have a full blown retro design on a new production car like the predecessor to the 812 wouldn't work imo.

Maybe another F12 SP car if you wanted but you'd have to fix the horrendous rear design and the likely cooling issue up front. Looks like there's only a third of the usual intake air for that 6.5L, 789HP, V12. That's not the 3.0L, 296HP, V12 motor from the '60s in there.

When I think of retro-style cars comes immediately to my mind models as the Fiat 500, Fiat 124, VW Beetle, Mini Cooper, Ford Mustang, Ford GT and the recent Alpine A110. As someone already said retro-style cars are hit or miss. Some receive instant love from the public others are hated. The mentioned retro models were all made by the companies that originally designed them but that isn’t the case with this “250 GTO”. The car isn’t designed by Ferrari but is proposed by another Italian design company located near-by Maranello and named Ares which emphasized the fact that this is just a reinterpretation of the 250 GTO and not a copy. In fact it can only be a reinterpretation because the original 250 GTO was a car created exclusively for racing with none of the constraints and requirements of the modern cars.
Despite of the fact that I liked this “250 GTO” design the moment I saw it I fully respect the opinions of those who dislike it and say that it lacks in originality and innovation. When I look at the 812 and compare it with this "250 GTO" and other previous Ferrari GT's my perception is that originality and innovation aren’t guaranteed ingredients for design success. It shouldn't be blasphemy the fact that some modern designers are revisiting the analogue world where they used pencil and paper to create elegant car shapes and flowing lines and IMO that's something advisable, even for Ferrari.
