I thought this was a good you tube video if you haven't saw it yet. Has some good information............. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jKDiNOhWWw
Hadn't even noticed that! Overall creepy! They definitely need some horse charmer music instead. Better yet, just a soundtrack of 348 exhaust sounds (and the subtitles).
I don't think they're bashing the 348. If anything, maybe questioning that it got bashed. What can you say? Weird title for a weird video. Still some good information about the model and many shots of various 348s.
Not only was it immensely tedious/annoying to listen to, it didn't break one iota of new ground-- anyone who is familiar with the model knows everything presented in that video (and more). It didn't really offer any evidence or conclusions with regard to its clickbait title either. Considering the very poor production values and the lack of information beyond what you can find in a little light reading on the Internet, I don't really understand the purpose of making the thing in the first place. As it is, the title alone just gives the uninitiated more reason to think badly of the undeservedly maligned 348. Jeers for the title, production values, and lack of substantive content. Two thumbs down!
Fav 348 vid-yes modified but cool. I heard this car was sold to NC? Anyone know where this is now? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KajL7klumA
Mine kind of sucks, that's why I've driven it over 50k miles...all with full race suspension and the loudest pipe you've ever heard. Oh, and no air conditioner. Crappy little thin tires, crappy ricer wing, before and after...last pic in Toronto at the 2008 I think national meet. Yep, 1000 miles one day, about 13 hours. Lunch with Luca: The Man Who Really Made Ferrari Famous Articles like this one written a few years ago don't help either.
It's a common occurrence. Somebody reads an article that has some negative points, a writer for another model regurgitates that article, and it snowballs from there. Then 'armchair' racers proclaim their 'Ferrari' bonafides by saying the 348 sucks...why? Because I read it on "blox x" that's why! Never mind I've never owned one, let alone driven one... The 348 is an awesome car, if you don't think so, great - I'll take it.
In 2013 Jeff348 posted a scanned article "Sparkling diamond, or gem in the rough" from Forza #30 (June 2001). http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/420590-things-know-about-348-before-you-buy.html Scroll down to #16. I don't know, how often I read it.
I'd forgotten about that thread, thanks for bringing it up. Good news (for me), I found the tb that I wanted from the beginning (as stated in post # 1 of that thread).
That's it exactly, Paul. It's happened with lots of different cars, not just the 348. Suddenly it becomes popular to knock that model and the snowball rolls downhill from there. The 348 received positive press from virtually all of the enthusiast magazines when it was first introduced, but after LDM's snarky comments it seems much of that was forgotten. Also, most people don't realize how incredibly important setup is in any high strung mid-engine car, but those of us who have driven a number of examples of Ferraris from that era can attest that setup and suspension alignment can mean the difference between a car that handles like a slot car and a downright scary car. A lot of the negative comments I've heard about 348s were clearly a result of the car not having been optimized for its intended use. While I don't know the history of the model nearly as well, the 348's plight reminds me of what I do know about the 365GTC/4. Most of the press who actually drove it liked the car for what it is-- a GT car. But over time it became popular to compare it negatively to its predecessor, so for the longest time the GTC/4 was basically ignored by the Ferrari community. As Daytona values went through the roof a few folks started wondering why the GTC/4 was still so cheap, and suddenly it was rediscovered that the GTC/4 is a great car in its own right. Fortunately for their owners, 365GTC/4 prices have now begun to reflect the specialness of the car. I continue to hope that the same will eventually happen with the 348 (at least to the degree supported by the 348's greater production numbers). I could rant about this stuff for paragraph after paragraph. It's why I get so frustrated when owners repeat the same tired lies about their cars when they're the ones who should know best that a whole lot of the bad press the 348 has received is unfounded. The cars aren't perfect-- I've yet to find any car that is. But they are much, much better than some people would have you believe, and most of those people have never even driven a 348, let alone a good one.
Actually, all the negative articles are written by me under hundreds of different pseudonyms, trying to depress the 348 market to the point that I could actually afford one of these dream machines. Hmmm... *checks pocket*... much more work needed. Remember how they explode when you smile too much during a perfectly executed gear change? Yeah, factory says it's a conspiracy theory by some journalist. Pfffft - I think they just don't want the negative press from a recall. All the best, Andrew.
