I'm now a non Ferrari owner. The car sold today for the asking price. Can't say i'm happy about it, but its time to move on to bigger and better things.

I'm very greatful and realize how fortunate I've been to have been able to own a Ferrari at a young age. But I now have other priorities that need my full attetion. Some of the money will go towards another car to replace my daily driver. The rest will go into real estate.

If things go as planned, I should have another Ferrari in a couple of years and be able to pay someone else to work on it for me!!

    Thanks guys!

Rick..yes I'm still going to be servicing the car..

Vasco..LOL... I looked for one..but the ones I have found are all junkers..too much work needed to bring them back to life

Ferrari guy..Thanks..She was a nice little car..I just gave her a fresh oil change for the new owner..and one more time around the block.

I have spotted another car that has caught my eye though..we shall see..But for right now other things are on the agenda..cars will have to wait for a bit.

Not all bad - you got full price, and you get paid to keep her on the road now instead of paying to keep her on the road. with hopefully a few little spins to make sure everything's still tight.

Sounds like a good financial call!

Good for you Tom. Priorities are hard to stick to, especially since we want instant gratification (speaking for myself!!!). Ah well, at least you still have the good ol' Benz...

    Call you next week Tom.

I am sure it's hard to arrive at that decision... takes a lot of courage to part from things we loved. But remember, they are just cars and it only takes money to bring them back. I'll get it, I'm sure.

    Hi Tom

My opinion: Everyone should own a great car once in their life. I bought a 1969 Alfa 1750 GTV in 1969 (age 21). I always knew that if that was the only great car I owned, that was fine. (I still miss it) You did same with a Ferrari. You will never lose that thrill, regardless of other, more rational priorities. But it can happen twice, it eventually did for me :)

I will tell you guys one thing though, I would not want to be a car salesmen selling used highend/exotic cars. Selling this this car to this particular buyer was one of the worst possiable experiances I have ever had selling a car.

He has completely removed all my faith in decency. I was at the point today ready to cancel the deal completely and just wait for another buyer. He has done nothing but have little contracts writen up by his lawyer, threating to sue for this that and the other thing (which I flat out refused to sign). I even went as far as to supply him with a complete set of suspention bushings for the car even though the car did not need them. The only reason I supplied them to him was because of his constant badgering about how he has read this and that, and how all his friends say it will need bushings. The bushings in my Ferrari were replaced about 3 years before I bought the car. He took it to his mechanic, and the mechaninc said the bushings are cracking..Well damn it..every bushing will show signs of superfical cracking even after 5 years. I told him to go and look under his own car and replace the bushings if they are cracked. This was in no way a saftey issue, and the car had zero suspention issues at all. There was no play in the front end of the car.

Those bushings cost me over 1000 dollars. I even got him Ferrari OEM bushings for the thing. Then he had the nerve to tell me he wanted me to drop everything I'm doing to install the bushings in the car for him next week. I flat out told the guy NO. I told him to take it someplace else.

As far as I'm concered..I will NEVER have this experience happen to me again. I'm going to chok this up to a learning experience and put it behined me. Next time I will stick to my guns

wow - you got one paranoid buyer there. And I thought I was hard on the sales guys I talked with. Hope you get the deal closed quick without any more stress.

I don't think he's ready for ownership - the $'s might be there, but not his acceptance of Italian engineering. I'm guessing he'd like you to wrench the car for free forever because you're selling it to him?

LOL..Paranoid is not really the word I would choose..but most definatly the "cover your ass" type of fellow..but to the point of being totaly unreasonable in some instances. I can completly understand being cautious and wanting to get what you pay for (which in this case, he is getting a car that I under valued). He told me has driven 4 other 308's and none even come close to mine. Based on that statment, I started to get angry when afterwords he started with this "sue your ass" type of talk.

As far a wrenching on the car, I'm kind of weary about it. I would much rather I don't, because of the way this guy was so quick to use a lawyer and with all the threats. I really don't need that kind of headach. I have way too much on my plate as it is.

Thanks Tom and others for all the kind words. Makes me feel better about the decision to sell the car.

Yeap - end of the day it's just a car, sometimes you have to step back and invest in the future/people/relationships/houses/education/business, whatever.

In my younger days, I had a real exotic, a show-horse off the racetrack who was a grandson of Secretariat. Now that kept my wallet empty! I can't imagine that type of investment in time any more. Makes a Ferrari seem like a bargain.

You're time's in enough demand that when a customer like this starts talking "sue your ass off" talk, I'm sure you can comfortably fire him and let your competition deal with him. I still get a kick out of those calls "we're tied up with other projects right now but I can recommend XYZ at 123-4567 to help you out".

Thanks Rocco...He has the car in his driveway as we speak. I took care of his "issues" with a little bit of lawyer work of my own. Once I got on of my big shot customers involved, he backed off and appologized to me and the lawyer.

Sometimes its nice to have friends in high places.

I still need to come up to your shop to have a look around a shoot the sht for awhile.

This is a nice used and worked in little 308. Tom did a nice job on the engine over the winter. I would bet that its more reliable than any honda, or toyota out there if its treated right.Im still sorry to hear its in a new home. Hopefully he will be as anal with it as he was with Tom.
