Hey Pap,rather than start, a new topic,cos there,d probably only only be the 2 of us on it.How about a *iss up at Pentland .I,m sure I could get Peter in Cairns interested.Pentland is about equedistant the Isa and A,ton/Cns.About 650Ks,thats if there,s a pub there of course,have to be o/night.
Let me try and decifer this post a little. You want to have a "piss up in Pentland"? Pentland is around the same distance from Mount Isa as it is from Cairns and Atherton? 650 km's sounds about right from here I reckon mate! And there IS a Pub in Pentland. I usually stop in there for a 6-pack of Beam on my way to Townsville. The Pentland Hotel/Motel will be able to accomodate us! Have you EVER been through Pentland mate?? Not much going on there, besides Cops hiding behind trees trying to nab speeding motorists! Also, I dont think I would do this trip. I drove the Townsville-Isa road 4 weeks ago and its VERY VERY average. Not too sure if I want to drive the Ferrari from here to there on that sh*thouse road. Although, it will be a nice drive from your end. Cairns, Townsville, Charters onto Pentland. I LOVE where you are headed with this idea Simon. Didn,t realise the road was that crap,pity.I did Charters to T/ville a couple of weeks ago...great.Is that still flood damage or normal condition? Still,worth the ask.Do you get your Ferrari trucked or do you take it down Winton way?
Yeah mate, tell me about it. I have driven from Mount Isa to Townsville 100 times over the last 10 years and it is slowly getting better, but its still ****ed. Instead of repairing sections here and there, they should do it ALL in one hit. That way, it will last a lot longer. They repair sections and by the time they finish them, they have to go back and fix the repaired section again because they did a crap job on it to begin with. Do it once and do it right!! Yeah, that is the BEST part of the road trip. Trust me! If the road was like that the entire way, I would probably take the Ferrari to Townsville A LOT more! Both mate. Mostly normal road condition, meaning its 20 yr old tarmac that is worn out and ****ed. Most sections dont have edges and are not sealed. They dont last long because it all breaks away. A lot of it is also very bumpy/hilly. The cars I take over scub the inside of the gaurds at 100 km/h as I go over them. Unavoidable, unless you want to do 60 km/h the entire way over. The roads still have A LOT of areas that need to repaired just from the all the flood damage back in January. Patch work here and there doesnt last! I trucked my 348 to Townsville and back when I first got it in mid 2005. Want to truck back there again one day to go crusing around. Want to take it up to Cairns/Atherton way. Some nice roads up that way apparently. Drove from Isa-Brisbane over 4 weeks ago. The road down the centre is VERY good! Winton/Longreach, all very nice.
