I had problem with shrinkage of the rubber seal around the door of my car and the dealer had problem locating this rubber piece from the factory. I had it fixed by the body shop at my Ferrari dealership since my Ford dealership did not know how to fix it and told me it has to be replaced.

It seems that the tach and speedometer unit appeared to go bad on other GT's also although it has not gone bad in my car yet. I wonder if this is a manufacture defect in these units with the earlier cars since the replacement unit by Ford is outrageously priced compared with an aftermarket unit which I have seen though not original but looks just as good or even better, and much cheaper.

Have to wonder as they come up in the same range as a 458 and MP4-12C if they will hit a wall.

I wish I knew the answer.

My Mclaren and 458 are faster cars. The best Handling goes to the Ferrari 458 then FGT then mclaren. This is drivers normal road feel since I do not race except to play as a total amateur. Maybe i should say Road feel instead of handling. But all of these cars are fast and drive well.

So depends on how the classic car or cult status grows, doesn't grow or never existed except in owners minds like me.

the two ferraris I owned before I bought the 458 i,e, 360 & 430 are worth more now than when I bought them. The 458 is still the current model so wait an see. I suspect the 458 will go down in value when it is replaced then start after 5 years or so to slowly go up.

I think the mclaren may "hit the wall" As you phrased it. But it sepends. It is nice enough looking although several of my freinds do not like the appearance. They stated they like my Mosler much better, but Mosler just went out of business

On the Ford GT, one of the earlier posters coined a phrase that I never heard before . Something like Ford Gt has benefited from not having a replacement model, " one then done". he said. I think that is Clever and a smart perspective.

I just buy the cars to drive. I never think of investment. I am too lazy :)

I admit I completely missed the boat.

When I bought my 360 I was also considering a Ford GT and a BMW Z8.

My 360 cost so much to own and sold for about half what I paid for it. Oh it was fun though. And I bought it to do DE with. So it was OK. Well, actually it was really fun. I had a blast :)

But the Z8, I still admire and has appreciated.

To make this tie in to this thread though. ... I could not have, and did not predicted where this GT market was going. I will refrain from offering any further opinions because I´ve done so poorly with my past predictions. My thoughts should be heavily discounted. LOL

Lots of power, no traction control = a lot of busted cars out there. For a while there were always a couple on ebay.

When I first bought the car I had the tach go out. The dealer replaced both the tach and the peedometer. This was in 2005 or so So far they have not given me any problems going on 8 years and counting.

Troy I think you are right. The next is the 2006 Ariel atom 3. I still love that car. The 0-60 times is at 2.85 seconds. It is breath taking. The Company is still doing well. I called them a few months ago, I needed a few small parts and the service was wonderful.

The Mosler is quicker but the atom feels quicker. When I bought the atom the factory took me to a G pad and showed me how the car broke traction and how to recover. I also got a chance to run the car on the Va. International speed way. I rode with then drove with a real Formula 2 professional driver. I learned alot but of course never enough. The top speed for my 300hp Atom is 153 MPH. It feels so fast when you are only sitting 6 inches off the gtound in the Atom. He was a real nice guy to talk to little old me and take me out.

    Life is good ! :)

I remember the speed well. Riding with you inn the atom is the most fun I have had in a car. Funny, my two favorites of your collection are the ones you've retained the longest. I say you have excellent tastes, Sir:D

In the book Ford GT40 and the New Ford GT (available from [email protected]) i saw the pictures of the sonic blue one. 1 of 1. What is the story on that car?
I heard rumors it was ordered by some Ford eexc but instead of getting to keep it, he had it relagated to a charity auction where it sold for higher than the retail price. I recently talked to a '67 Shelby GT500 convertible owner (yeah, I know, they didn't make them until '68 but this is a prototype) and he waxed elogquently on "1 of 1" cars so I am wondering what's the story on how that car was born and what's it worth today vis-a-vis the other 4038 (now I am hearing on this site 4033, which means five car differance between what I say and what they're saying now).

PS sonic blue is like Pontiac Grand Prix midnight blue but more blue in it.

Stan I am with you. You may have missed the boat I did not know they even was a boat :)

My 360 was also very expensive and bone crushing to own. When i took the car in for a regular service, the seconf year total fluids change was %14K. Ouuch!

I decided to buy a new F430, cheaper I said to myself :) I was not really.

    I love your post. :)

Thank you Troy you are very kind. I think it proves if you buy enough cars just by luck one or two have to turn out to be liked by at least a few people :)

Low milege collectible Ford GTs are $225-$250k now, see the awesome ones at Cat's Exotics that really move.

The problem with the production numbers is they do not take into account the ones destroyed and salvage repaired. Those will never be on the same level.

The 458 will be dropping for years, and the McLaren (coupe) market is already soft.

The Ford GT should hold value for a long time. The styling somehow manages to be retro and timeless, and having seen a couple on the road it has nice presence. Iconic -- in a way the McLaren and 458 aren't.

Most importantly, IMHO, it's a car that won't be superseded by something better next year or the year after, and buyers know that. (Unless Ford decides to resume production...)

When I bought my new Ford Gt at a local dealership they were asking $250K on the window. Jay leno on his garage web site said some even sold for that. I saw on FGT go for $260k at Barret Jackson. This price was plus 10% buyers premium. I suspect they will go for that and even more with time. We cannot lose focus that among all of the other atributes of this car it drives very very well. It is fun, cheap and reliable to own.

I do not know how many are still in good driving condition. I did read on the FGT forum that two cars that went to australia were destroyed in a racing crash.

Jay leno said on his website that Ford quit naking the Gt because the lights could no longer meet Federal requirements. I have not heard that elsewhere. Maybe be true who knows I think Jay said "it has been said". The lights seem okay to me at night but the regs are most likely better now.

all I know is when I sell my FGT I can say.

Driven by an old man, only on Sundays, never going to church, always under the speed limit. Sadly pretty much all true :)

The problem I have with many of the cars for sale is the low mileage. I want to drive the car, and I have to think you go off a cliff, price wise, if you do. I'd be more than happy with a well cared for 20K mile car but almost never see those.

Keith I have a system, not to sell the cars in the future, but to keep them operating with the least problems while I own them.

I have set up an excel spread sheet to keep me current on oil changes, battery times & changes, tire pressures etc.

The most important part is I keep a driving record, or exercise schedule. I drive the car next which was driven longest ago. Each car seems to be driven at least every three months but normally within two months.

I have done this for the last 14 years which is when I started buying cars. So far it seems to work well. I always pondered this gentleman point.

I worried about having garge cars. My cars may have low odometer mileage but each car is driven regularly, oil is changed once a year no matter how little milage has accumulated.

seems to work so far. :)

You're saying driving a GT 20k miles will take it off the cliff price wise? Define cliff?

I think what makes these cars go up in value so much is the fact that more are being crashed and modded than kept stock. I remember a thread on here where many people were saying they bought two (one to drive and one to park). Why do you think MK4 Supra's are so valuable?

Nebraskans love them. This picture is from a car show in a town just south of Omaha (credits to pshep123). The three red one's are all owned by the same guy, the Heritage is driven the hell out of, and the gray one has 700HP. Plus many others are scattered throughout eastern central and east Nebraska.

Couldn't agree more with all of you Gentleman. This car is exemplary, and I think they will continue to go up. They are probably the last of the Analog Sports Car, in fact I think the only Electronics are ABS Brakes and that is probably the reason for the crashes.
