Here's an idea... remove the power-sucking plastic surgery and focus solely on excellent reception and battery life. I've got a PDA for everything else.

But in reality, of course video has come. High-speed internet next, while simultaneously focusing on "fresh" designs of the entire device as usual. More services for phones (better internet, games, updates, specific uses). After that, I think all that development is limited by where computers are at. Think about it, computers started out monochrome, then fresh design (continuing from this point with various highs and lows), then color, then better color (internet somewhere in there), then webcam (pictures followed by video), to the point we're at now.

    As always, 2cents :)

3 weeks ago, when I was in Japan, I saw this cool metalic Red cellphone, which was used by my friend. I complimented, then he told me it's not a cell phone, but video camera! It uses those compact flash for image & shoot up to 40 min of video. (forgot the resolution, but it's not bad at all after seeing images on a lap-top) It was just like a cell phone w/ a half side rotate 360 degree, not flip or candy-bar style.
    It was very thin, too.

I also saw a cell phone w/ leather casing, not plastic nor metal. It was meant for ladies as the color was pastels & bright colors. One black leather one could be had for men. It was flip type, and looked surprisingly elegant.

I wish I could download pics from their sites. I had 3 models I liked that I don't mind switching from my RazorPhone.

I think that they can only get so small before that is too small., Look how much it has evolved in 10 years, from those huge huge gray motorolas to the rzr.
If you look at our house phones they continuosly evlved until they are now at a plateau.IMO cell phones have almost peaked.
But allow inventors and technology to prove me wrong.

    Lets see the following:

    1) A phone that senses it is in a restaurant and the user is loud and rude to those around him or her.....Once detected, the phone blows up in ten seconds!

    2) A sensor that detects when the phone is under your couch. Once detected, it sends a loud beep every ten seconds.

    3) A phone that will hold two ounces of your favorite booze

    4) A phone with an antenna that also serves as a telescopic fly rod for those days you pass a creek with trout and you don't have your gear

    5) A phone that is aerodynamic enough that you can throw it farther when you get pissed off at it's poor reception and dropped calls!
