The rear wing looks like the one 599 XX Evo has. The sound is amazing!

Guess the active rear wing wasnt producing the downforce required? They've had to go back to the fixed wing

Well, that's the case with all the race versions of the street cars, going back to the racing version of the BB, the BBLM. Add as much wing as possible. :)

In addition, the downforce demands on a racetrack are far greater than on the open road

In street LaF this active aero part is in fact a deployable spoiler not a wing. Road version doesnt need a wing. Although other manufacturers have to add a wing. Ferrari have achived their hypercar goals without it.

Testing with bigger spoiler was to test more downforce at the back but not to show the final parts and looks of their car. Ferrari rarely reveals their new cars early. Otherwise waiting for its official reveal at Geneva would make no sense.

And yess , the xx cars are built to be much quicker, especially in the corners, and thus require race-trim wing .
    The road version just doesnt.

Bearing in mind that xx cars arent restricted to using fixed wings, like for example gt3 cars
And judging by 599xx evo solutions, this wing "may" be something like that or even more advanced active wing.

Btw. F40 has a fixed "wing". And noone would ever imagine replacing it with any other.
    Thats the point of Ferrari.

    :)

Thank you guys for the clarification! However the reason i brought it up was the design brief for the laf was supposed to be all about aero performance on road and track and they felt they achieved it without the need for a rear wing. Buy adding one on the xx version it means that it wasn't the optimal solution
By contrast, the rear deck of the Ferrari looks almost naked, without anything like the McLaren’s vast, hydraulically operated rear wing.

This was from an interview with evo last March

‘We don’t need it,’ says Roberto Fedeli, Ferrari’s senior technical vice president. ‘This is not the first time we are using active aerodynamics. For the 599XX Evo we had a wing on the car which we managed in order to obtain the right load. We learned a lot from that, and it’s the same philosophy we’re using on LaFerrari – without a wing but with a spoiler on the back of the car, and with moveable surfaces on the underbody. The vehicle dynamics system manages the load and drag – the ECU manages all the surfaces in order to find the maximum performance, the maximum load you can have on the wheels.’

    You re welcome, glendon.

We know that road legal cars are not strict race cars. For >normal< laF , beautifully combined leaf-like rear spoiler is probably enough. Bigger ones need stiffer suspension etc. Take as an example mclaren s approach. Their P1 has a big wing but so what because it cannot be driven on public roads in its race-mode. I think mcl missed a point a bit calling their design 'an ultimate sports car'. And then after they re in need of making p1 gtr. The Ferrari do their job more eloquently. Their LaF is simply spectacular. And XX version without road compromises was just expected to come. I must admit that it sounds gorgeous :-D. And hope that the looks will be as close to a thoroughbred race car as it can be.
Then it could replace my favourite 458gt3.

Optimal track configuration is different to optimal track and road configuration.

Looks like it has an 599XX Evo-esque rear wing too.

Luca was anti wings and after the F50 vowed to not put one on the street cars. Now that Luca is out, maybe we'll see wings on the super Ferrari's. :)
