@chalstrad - very nice pages 22-23 of TOFM
Very nice video, #81 Alexander West Pretty cool tour on track, interesting to see some differences with trajectories of both drivers, and also when #8 Mario? use the kers.
These videos are P-U-R-E... my theory is Instagram culture lusts over spotting vs. racing. If only they knew what they're missing

Very nice and different FXX K. Beautiful configuration. I don't know if it's the nicest, but i think that Mann's car together with the black/yellow car are the most beautiful IMHO!
There are 11 cars at Shanghai - #1 , #5 , #8 , #18 , #29 , #33 , #38 , #66 , #68 , #81 and #98 And yes a lot of asian owners. See the cars and owners at fxx-k.com and and www.facebook.com/fxxkdk/ for pictures
Matte blue #8 (#218329) had a high speed crash at Shanghai today, fortunately the Swiss driver was only slightly hurt. Car is seriously damaged. At 300 km/h one of the brake discs exploded. A similar problem occurred in Mugello at the end of the main straight (with another FXX K). Are they having problems with brake discs (Brembo?). Marcel Massini
I notice that Japenese drivers are not here, why? Chinese drive faster than them, or is just a question of racism? in other side, where is the F passion.?.. Anyway, they are all agree when we re talking of Panama papers and Swizterland.
i like peter's too. i wish they would let him pick blue carbon for the roof of the car instead of that gun metal grey. looking at the fb page i noticed that matte black car with the pink accent as well. i like the way the owner chose the gross black over matte black on those strips. and the pink isnt bad at all for a racy looking car like the fxxk.
Were they front discs in both incidents? I believe the front discs are actually the same size as the ones on the LaF and 488 GTB so disc size should not be the issue. Did Brembo use a different material for the FXX K discs from the one they used on the LaF discs? I imagine braking from 300 kph would be routine for these cars. Hope the drivers are OK... and the cars are repairable.
Yes, both times front disc. The other incident, at Mugello, was with the FXX K owned by a German. Same situation. Marcel Massini
Thanks Marcel. This is the first time I've heard of CCM discs exploding but perhaps it's not actually that rare of an occurrence. However since they're exclusively used on cars designed to brake at high speeds, it would be essential to avoid such catastrophic failures. Here's a YouTube video of the manufacturing process for anyone interested. Given the extensive physical inspections the discs undergo I wonder if the problem has more to do with material failure and rather than structural flaw(s). Glad to know that the driver is alright. A very high speed crash indeed... The only thing that i've found about Mugello incident is that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yH-h51NXG5A
glad the driver(s) are ok Anecdotal comment, but over 5+ years of racing with current-gem CCM's, I cannot recall one incident in the 458C where a disc "failed" catastrophically while on the track. That's probably 40-50 weekends, and probably 100 unique cars (including World Finals). It may have happened, just have never seen it.... (FWIW, have seen just about everything else....tire failures on the banking at Daytona, hubs failing going into T1 at Mugello, steering pump failures in the Esses at the Glen, brake booster failures going into T1 at Lime Rock...) Peter or one of the FXXK owners might have a view, I am no expert on what the FXXK setup is I have seen rotors destroyed by relatively little contact, and I've known teams who found cracks upon inspection between sessions. I ran over and cut a tire on a piece of a rotor at Sonoma after someone banged the wall....they are delicate. I believe these are Brembos of similar construction and materials, so perhaps there was a manufacturing defect in the FXXK, would be curious to hear more if/as it develops. Of all the things you need confidence in to go fast is the knowledge you can slow the damn thing down when you need to....
Fortunately in Shanghai last Saturday the matt blue car crashed rearwards into the wall. If not, the driver would not have survived at that speed (300 km/h). Marcel Massini
Marcel, While many respect your opinions and your ability to access certain information from within Ferrari, it is neither appropriate, exact or necessary to make such comments as this. Motor racing, in any form remains a dangerous sport however to make the statement that the driver would have not survived and that the impact was at 300 km/h is self-serving and simply stupid. As you have not had access to the telemetry (I checked) you simply happen to know that the car had a big crash at Shanghai. Beyond that, including the real cause - which may or may not be the same or similar to the accident at Mugello - is pure speculation on your behalf. Whatever and whoever is your source (and I have a VERY clear idea of who that is), it remains guess work for the time being. I can also assure you that your source has not had access to the car's telemetry - any more than you have. This kind of behaviour is simply a manner in which to put yourself in the "I'm in the know" limelight and creates a negative impact without real knowledge. I suggest that you stick to chassis numbers. At least there, you have built a reputation as someone serious.
This is moving off-thread, with apologies. I read the FXX-K threads to get more insight into the cars; I have been lucky enough to be around them at Finali Mondiali and Corse Clienti events, and been able to ride in a few thanks to friends. As for the shunts discussed above, I have zero knowledge of what happened, or why. The fact that someone had an off at a track, and walked away, is most important. As stated, I am not intimate with the FXXK braking systems, or much about the cars at a detailed level, but wanted to share my experience with the CCM rotors. Having said that, and being a veteran of countless race weekends and track days (and, having "survived" and "unsurvivable" 55g frontal impact), I am always cautious about speculation about 1) what happened 2) what broke 3) why it broke (if anything did) 4) what the driver did (or, didn't do), and 5) what "could have happened" unless we have video and, most importantly, data, with a credible technical analysis, everything else is BS. Also, like most racers, I am a bit bipolar when it comes to "shunts". Part of me wants to see the wreckage and understand every detail about the cars I also drive, and what happened, so I can learn from it. The other part of me absolutely detests the people who seem to want to take endless pictures and criticize without knowing the facts - particularly when it's a "well known brand" car. Apologies, just wanted to share, now back to the FXX-K thread
