I've done a number of helmets for Ferrari folks, but this one was rather "different" than anything else I've done -- I got quite a kick out of doing this "Race-Kitty" Ferrari helmet in pink pearl!

More Ferrari helmet pics are at www.helmet-painting.com

THAT is bad to the bone!!!

I have to be careful not to let future Ferrari driver Amanda see that!

Waaay cool, bro. Did they bring the concept to you or is that your design????

Somebody's serious. That's a nice helment, I use Simpson exclusively.

What class of racing is that. Set up for HANS, correct?

The lady's fiance had it done as a gift for her, and they worked together on the design and sent it to me as a colored pencil sketch. This helmet does not have a restraint system (eg, Hans); that's just the standard hang-hook that's on the Simpson (like is usually on Bell helmets also). His helmet, though, did have a Hans setup on it. It's the multi-tone blue/silver Arai that's above the "Roll Tide" Schumacher-style helmet on the website examples.

Thanks for the nice comments. "Race-kitty" was certainly a unique design to implement!

Mcharness, hope you are not offended, but a bit of constructive criticism. You did a very good job on the kitty helmet overall, except one thing. The face of Hello Kitty is too fake. It's too chubby and the eyes are a bit misaligned. My gf is a big Hello Kitty fan and she pointed that out to me when I showed her the pics.

I don't think it's your problem, your client probably didn't provide you with the correct drawing.

    Nice work.

I have a question. I have couple of helmets that are blue or have flags and stuff on them, and I want to paint them solid yellow to match upcoming ducati this year. How do you suggest I go about doing that, in short of buying new helmets?

And would you know cost involved?

Maybe that's just from the photo angle of a curved surface. I made the vinyl-cut stencil for the graphic right off their website, so I do know it's correct.

It depends on the helmets... if the flags and stuff were painted and not decals then it can be repainted just as if it was a plain white helmet. If those are decals under the helmet and you can feel the edges through the clearcoat, then it's a major effort to prep the helmet for repaint... that probably adds $100 to the cost of the repaint.

A "plain" repaint (single color) is somewhere under $300, depending on the helmet. You'd get a further discount of $50 from most places by having two done at the same time. Weigh that against the cost of a new helmet, if you can buy it in the color you want. For motorcyle helmets (rather than SA-2000 car racing helmets), it's not always cost-effective to have a repaint, depending on the design.

Right, the curvature of the helmet would distort the face a bit. Guess the photo didn't capture it at the exact angle. A very cool helmet in any case.

If my gf has good enough driving skills to go to the track, I would certainly get her a helmet like that. Of course, with her own personal designs.

Nice -- *MY* girlfriend is going to want something like that for track days...

I liked the other helmets on your website too. I may be giving you a call.

Mike, I've got a new Sparco helmet I keep meaning to call you about - have to think about the design a bit more. Love Race Kitty!

Thanks, I'd be glad to do it for you. I've just added some more examples at the website, including a Jackie Stewart style paintjob.

I'm surprised Bubba that you don't want one yet, considering you have THE Hello Kitty 512TR!

I made that last Spring for member Bubba in Hong Kong. I noticed that the site Gizmodo found it on a humor site that had it in a funny picture gallery, which is delighting to see my images go around but slightly frustrating as the cropped and wiped out my credits and titling (and changed the wheels).

Here it is, with the OEM 512 wheels...
