Just got off the phone with IMS and the lady's comment was that was the way Michelin set it up.

Last year we purchased 6 USGP tickets (4 of which were Xmas gifts). So in order for us to get our TWO FREE tickets we MUST purchase SIX tickets for the '06 race. You MUST purchase the SAME NUMBER on your account as last year. So it you only purchased ONE ticket you get TWO free - talk about a major rip off.

This falls in the same category as the hotel price rip-off's - get real, a Day's Inn for $150/night! The whole USGP can be summed up in one word - Greed.

For this reason and more, I will choose to spend my money to continue attending the real F1 races in Europe, not a wanna-be in the US.

    I don't understand..........

Were you refunded for the tickets from last year?

So if a couple went this year and got two tickets they would need to purchase two tickets for next year and then they get two more tickets that they don't need?

This sounds like a way to increase crowd size.

You hit the nail on the head on increasing crowd size.

Yes, we got a check for $510 but in order to get two free ones, we must spend $510 again then we get two more "free" tickets that we don't need. (Increasing the crowd size by two more people from 6 to 8)! - multiply that times all the account holders and they might fill half the stands!

That $510 will buy our race tickets this weekend to the Belgium GP next September and we even get change!

    Crazy, huh?!?!?

Well, you did get your money back. So you were made whole.

This little promo of free seats to next year is clearly to get the stands full. There is some logic to this. I think to make this work for you, you need to expand your group or sell your extras. I'm sure there are some fchaters that are planning to attend. Post early and see if you can work a deal.

    Good luck

I might be out of line here but maybe this applies to you in wanting something for nothing.

As has been said by LetsJet you've gotten your refund. Now, you want more? Ostensibly IMS/Mich is saying "You give us the same business as last year and we'll reward you. If not... you have your money back."

I'll agree for me there's better races, and cheaper ones, on the calendar. Many would call me a left leaning liberal but even I know how a free market system works. If it pisses you off so much stop going to F1 races period. This was much more a debacle on the FIA's part than IMS or Michelin. Ticket prices are out of order for F1 races on a whole IMO. You don't like it, stop going. As someone who's extremely price sensitive on almost all items I purchase sometimes you just have to say "I'm not going to pay that, it's not worth it to me" and move on. Prices will always climb to what the market will bear. Until more people stop going they're not going to come down.

You got your refund. Keep it and stop complaining like you want something for nothing. No sympathy for you. I am in exactly the same situation as you, and I am OK with the result. It was not the Speedway's fault that the Michelin teams are nothing more than dog feces.

Send back the refund check, get the same number of tickets as you had for 2005, plus two more, sell them, and you come out ahead. Consider ourselves lucky that Michelin had enough backbone to offer this refund. PR move yes, but at least we did not have to file a class action law suit that would take years to settle.

About the only thing I can agree with you about is the way hotels take advantage of special events.

Obviously I didn't make thoughts clear enough - no I don't want something for nothing - I am the opposite of that kind of person - I give 110% and ask for nothing in return.

    Consider this thread defunct.
