OK Bama crew (Icon, Dr. Cosgrove, Mike C, Drew A, rfking, branko, et al), FarmerDave and Manny are planning to pass through Birmingham on I-20 on Sunday.

Manny has purchased a Mondial and they are making a 1700 mile road trip back to Dallas in it!

We should show them some Tifosi spirit on their shakedown cruise!

    Here's their tentative schedule:

Assuming they stay on schedule, which of course is a real question, it seems we should meet them somewhere close to Barber Museum for lunch.

I used to drive from Birmingham to Ruston, Louisiana, which is an hour this side of Shreveport, and I will tell you that it is a long drive. Atlanta adds another 2:30 hours on to that.

In short, I think Shreveport is a bit of a stretch.

Jackson, Mississippi would be a good stop, with Shreveport an easy drive the next day.

Especially afer a HOTLANTA SATURDAY NIGHT!

I drove my Mondial from Atlanta to Birmingham two weeks ago.

Spent 45 minutes in stop and go traffic to go 2 miles in 90 degree weather right about the Georgia line. Construction is awful and it will easily add an hour to the driving time. Also I saw 8 trooper cars lurking and saw several stopped speeders. The road from Anniston to Birmingham is nicknamed "death valley" because of the fatality rate along I-20 and is heavily patrolled.

    Be careful.

I don't think that Manny or FarmerDave will see this thread prior to their roadtrip...

...I'm just thinking that we can show them some support.

And your Barber Track idea is pretty cool!

Yes, staying on schedule will be a real feat, if we can pull it off. Thanks for the assessment of the drive between Atlanta/Brimingham/Shreveport. We'll be prepared for it and try to leave as early as we can on Sunday morning.

We appreciate you guys planning a little get together for us! Can some of you PM us your contact info so that we can coordinate on the fly?

And don't worry about us after the evening Atlanta, I think it will be a pretty tame one. :)

I just came back from Atlanta last weekend in the Ferrari. On the way up I saw the bottleneck one-lane thing on I20 W. It is all in Ga. On the way back I skipped it by grabbing 78 at Villa Rica and staying on it until Heflin. You may can go as far as 113 before exiting for 78 but I really cannot remember. Better to just play it safe and exit at Villa Rica. You can pick up I20 again in Heflin. It has a few stoplights but nothing like what I saw Fri night on I20 W. No way I would go near that in a Ferrari in the summer.

Do you hear me, Dave? Seriously.

One other thing in case we miss you passing thru. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT speed between about mile marker 150 and about 133 which is roughly between Moody and Irondale AL.

The cops have been making examples of people on this stretch and bragging about it in the newspaper. I drive part of that stretch every single day and I can tell you they are out there. I am seeing cops sitting in places that they have never hidden in before and I have lived here since 1972. Saw one today again. Just back it down to 70 until you get to the Bham airport.

    Trust me on this one.

OK, for Manny and FarmerDave driving West on I-20:Going west on I-20, take exit number 140 towards Leeds. Turn left off the exit, taking Highway 78 East. Turn right before the Chevron Station onto Rex Lake Road. Turn right onto Barber Motorsports Parkway.

For those in Birmingham headed to meet them:

Oh yeah! You can see the race track from I-20, but driving West on I-20 as you'll be doing by the time you can see the track you've missed your exit.

It's an outstanding track and museum complex. Reasonably large (720 acres).

Our local Fchatter Branko created the iron gate sculptures (very cool).

The only thing that might be a hiccup is that we might be a little early, since it is a Sunday and the museum doesn't open till noon. We'll probably want to be on the road in Atlanta by 8am or so, that would put us at Leeds around 10ish. Is that right?

Not a problem. The track complex should be open then, anyway. So if you are on schedule or early, we can meet you at the I-20 exit and at least have a place to show you while you stretch your legs for a few minutes before you are on your way again.

If you are a bit behind schedule, then perhaps we can buy you lunch and maybe you'll even have some time to spend checking out the vintage cars/bikes in the museum.

Just a little break from the road monotony!

Partake as much or as little as you care or have time, then be on your way. We'll be there showing our support (hey, any excuse to get a bunch of Ferraris together).

If you want lunch, cool. If you want to just keep driving, then that's fine, too.

But we're on your way so you won't have to adjust your schedule for us.

PM me your cell phone # and I will call with their latest ETA update on Sunday. Earliest ETA as of now would be 10 AM Sunday morning, more likely closer to Noon (food, vintage museum tour, etc.).

Would love to see your MV Special again (vineyard roadtrip reprised!). Saw EBS' black version out at the Tannehill charity F-car get-together earlier this month.
