In 1969/70, Peter Helm shot a short film with an 8mm camera to celebrate his friend's acquisition of a PF Coupe. I participated with my GTO and saw the footage for the first time only a week ago. I've added my own commentary to the film which can be seen at:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCfItWwi2V8

Peter was instrumental in bringing southern California Ferrari owners together in the early days and he has an amazing archive of 8mm footage of some very rare cars. He has also lived more bigger-than-life adventures with his cars than any ten people I know!

    Dear Steven.

What a fun 8mm film that conveys the free spirit of the time, not to mention showing the beautiful lines of the GTO and California Spider in action! No static view can show the beauty of those cars as well as film...

    Cheers.

What a treasure this site is...I want more. I'm like a man who has found a fresh cold spring of water on a very hot and dry day, whose thirst is unquenchable...

Absolutely wonderful footage! It is documentation like this that reminds us of how much things have changed in the past 40 years, some of it not for the better.

Thank you, Krasnavian for sharing the memories. All of the scenes seemed so unreal and movie-like, yet nothing but reality. Unbelievable, indeed. A time from another world as if. Very thought provoking. w/ smiles Jimmy

Thank you all for your appreciative comments. It's been too long, Paolo. I am very pleased to hear from you!

GuyIncognito, I'm sure Peter must have some photos of it in Khaki complete with the white stars on the doors and other Army markings (Asa Clark's reaction was just what Peter was going for as he pulled up to the California Yacht Club for the monthly FOC meeting!). I'll see if I can get him to transfer to digital for posting here.

ArtS, it took two brief afternoons. On the second day, the PF Coupe was absent. I think Rick had boarded a plane for New York.

Napolis, unless a trip to Paris preempts the occasion, I should be at Pebble. See you there?

My vote for the best You Tube video. It brought goosebumps. Most of us can only imagine what these times were like. Thank You for giving us a taste. I"m sure everyone is hungry for more.

The "Army" paint job was very temporary, but as Steve said, it had the desired effect, in spades. And not just on Asa---who was the stuffy real estate guy with a Lusso? Them wuz the dayz.

...a Lusso and an ascot! Dan Ward, methinks. :)

Ed is correct. We hosed off the poster paint the next day and all was forgotten, if not forgiven.
