Burke will be introduced at 2pm tomorrow, looking forward to the new era.
I think Cliff Fletcher has done a fine job so far. Even though he was temporary, he made a few good moves.
Yes atleast we have more cap space, & moved up to get schenn, the silver fox did ok. Burke will clean out even more. It will be a lot bigger & meaner team in 09/10
Canada was stunned Monday when it was announced that The Stanley Cup will be awarded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, possibly as early as December 6th. The cup will be stripped from from 2008 playoff champions the Detroit Red Wings and be awarded to the Leafs, who didn't even make the playoffs. How is this possible, Canadians ask? Well, the Leafs have formed a coalition with eastern conference semifinalists the Montreal Canadians, and conference quarter finalists the Ottawa Senators, now outnumbering the Red Wings. According to current Leaf coach Ron Wilson "the Red Wings have lost the confidence of the league and should hand the cup over immediately to our coalition". NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is cutting short a European trip to try to resolve the unprecedented hockey crisis that could force a second playoff series, or see an opposing team coalition take the cup. Seeing Dion with a Maple Leaf logo makes me want to puke!!! The type of outfit he is wearing is appropiate though. Glad to see he was booted out as leader.
Thank goodness he is leaving.......I was really scared that Dion might of had a chance to become PM for a moment. He was the biggest idiot ever to head the Liberal party Iggy seems like a safer, more respectable choice for the new leadership role. Although I am a PC supporter, the Liberals have a good shot with Iggy now.
Iggy won't pop. He has been in the political background for many years, and he has been carefully waiting for his chance to head the Liberal Party. I think once he is in the leadership role, we will see a good fight between him and Harper.
Sean Avery for PM or National Director of Media. His locker was cleared out earlier this week- by his teammates, so he will be looking for a job.
I was thinking Sundin for Mayor of Toronto........ Maybe Sundin could head the "Blue and White Party" and go for PM?
..the way I see it is as long as the leafs beat Montreal & Ottawa for the remainder of the year then I will be happy ..playoffs are a bonus!
...and this is exactly why the leafs will never have a winning organization! The fans accept mediocrity and failure...and the ownership is happy to oblige!
ahh I said 'for the remainder of the year" as it's just about lost NOT forever & I think you are speaking of the Ferguson bunch as Burke knows a thing or two about hockey and will never let MLSE push him around like a toy doll..actually I think that's exactly how it's worded in his contract ! btw, if you are a Habs fan..ignore the above
I think the leafs have turned a corner now, so long as we dont keep trading away our picks & sign a few good ufa's well be ok in 2-3 years time. IT will take a while to get rid of the fergy mistakes, & the buyouts we will be paying for.
Today the Habs suck, next time the Leafs...what else is new??? Historically, though, the Montreal Canadians are still the better (MUCH better) team..............
Looks like its going to cost more to see the leafs miss the playoffs again next season! "But beginning in the 2009-10 season, the average ticket to see the Buds for real will jump 3.5 per cent over its current cost. It's a bold move for a supposedly recession-proof organization that will almost certainly miss the playoffs for the fourth year in a row. The club raised prices 5 per cent in 2007, while rates held firm this year. Leafs seats currently range from $37 to $182, making the team one of the NHL's most profitable franchises each year. A recent Forbes Magazine article pegged the total worth at more than $400 million, though the team's ownership group, MLSE, has disputed that claim." I bet ya 2 gold seats that every game will still be sold out!
As in the Toronto Maple Leafs??? Seats are a lot more expensive then $36 - $182.... (try multiplying that range by 3).
What a joke.......I am a Leafs fan but still find it strange to pay $180 a seat to see a game. MLSE has the greatest business in Canada.......come watch a losing hockey team and pay $15 a beer, and $180 a ticket.....no wonder they are worth over a billion dollars, and are the most profitable business in Canada.
The Leafs, also pay for half the bailout $ for the crap southern teams. Thoses teams are only still running because of the $ the leafs generate. The midget will be pushing for another team here soon, to fix his mistakes.
