83 308. The horn was working fine. Then a week or so ago it would toot, occationally it would not. I'd hear the unit spin-up, but no sound. I added a couple drops of oil which didn't help. A week later, nothing. I can hear/feel the relay click. The fuse is fine, the clock & key buzzer are fine. Where's the unit that supplys power to the horn? Is it simply the cylinder below where you oil? What about the two tubes on the cylinder? One is air to the horns, the other is??? Thanks in advance, Clyde M
Found a good thread on the topic of tooting I pulled mine out to bench test. cake. The connections were oxidized, but not badly enough to stop contact. Cleaned them up. Connected to an extra car battery. Just a whirring (no oomph). then it stopped. nothing more. I thought the battery may have been low. Nope. Gave the horn a little rap on the side. Voila! There's to small ports at the base of the unit. I can see the armature sparks while the horn is in operation. Anybody ever use contact cleaner or such in it? By the way, to answer another thread - The upper port connects to the tube that runs into the tire well for fresh, dry air. The lower port connects to the horn trumpets.
