I think the problem is with what Speed was intended to be, and what it could have been, instead of what it has become: a crap-loaf of NASCAR, half-baked "reality" shows and the embarressment that is Barrett-Jackson.
I'm more upset about the whole no more Speed channel. It might have sucked, played way too much Nascar but it was really all we had. Hopefully NBC sports picks up the slack...
Robin Miller would be the first one to tell you that he's been fired before and he'll be fired again. Nature of the business. BHW
Well....it doesn't fair well for "crapwagon". Wind Tunnel & Speed Center employees got their walking papers so any information about said sport just got nixed. Just one more nail in the coffin lid. Same for F1, Rolex and ALMS. I hope someone picks up LeMans next year as with the Honda annoucement....this is going to get a whole lot better. WEC may just be the ticket for all race fans!
There's no more ALMS after this year anyway and they are generally on ABC/ESPN. Hopefully the new series inherits that deal. I dunno about LeMans. I doubt any other network will cover it like Speed did. Same goes for Daytona, etc.
I don't think the Honda announcement is that big a deal...it's just for privateer hybrid engines. they've been supplying full cars in P1 and P2 to privateer teams for years. so this is really just a logical extension of an existing program. all this means is Scott Tucker can get that much closer to the front of the field but yes, Speed's coverage of LeMans is superb, it will be a shame to see it go away. I wonder if US broadcasters just assume those few hardcore fans stateside who care about LeMans are going to watch a pirated feed on the internet anyway...
No....but the combined series starts next year and I do think it deserves some tv time. I think people who do watch it will find it a refreshing change as "green technology" will be part of it and with that a much more interesting form of racing than "spec". I look forward to Honda's involvement because it put technology in front of the world. And that will help racing!
Anything that helps the sport is good imho. I have had enough "spec" racing and I think people have also. Time to see the future and where it will be going. Racing is about tomorrow and beyond. Not about playing fair!
That network has become such ****. PassTime, Car warriors and all that other total bull****, seriously? I was so happy when F1 moved to NBC.
Agreed! ^^ It'd be a sad thing, if we still had Speedvision pre-NASCAR, but otherwise I never even tune that channel!
Pass Time is good. I like that one. The "car building/rebuilding" in "a short time" with hyped up drama though, whatever the names of those shows where. pewhew, I don't even like watching commercials for them. Those cars have to be crap.
I actually really like pass time. I know next to nothing about drag racing but it is fun trying to guess the times against people that do know. I have been hoping Velocity would pick up where Speedvision left off, but lately they have been showing a lot of recycled Discovery shows.
It all started cause f***** Fox had to buy Speedvision after their damned NASCAR deal. It all went to crap after that. The network might have had garbage programming but it was all we really had. Do you really think someone else will air the 20 or so hours of LeMans coverage or Daytona like they just did? We'll be getting a highlight reel if we're lucky. This is a step backwards for motorsports fans unless ESPN or NBC steps it up. I really hope they do.
I know. I am totally in full support of it. Lots of ideas to bring forward. Brings more to racing and gives everyone a chance to win.
