We've sold our "dream" property after owning it for 2 years. We bought it for the 1.4 acres and have lived in the 800 square feet "duct tape" house with window A/C and floor heaters. Although much fun, Jennie and I are ready to move into a real house now that she's working. Our original plan was to build on it, but with the economy the way it is there are better deals in the area for existing houses. Beautiful property with over 100 Oak trees and a good 7 iron from front to back. However, it would have been really expensive to develop.

Funny funny, at one time our 800 square foot house had with it on the property a Ferrari 328, Ferrari 355 Challenge, 3 RX7 Race Cars, 1 totaled RX7 Race Car, 1 unrestored Superbird, 1 Toyota Tundra, 1 BMW 325is, 2 flat bed trailers, and 1 enclosed trailer with a better A/C than the house. :)

Here are some pictures in memory of our "duct tape" house and the Ferrari garage that to this day most users don't believe I actually kept the car in. Calling Ferrari Protective Services won't help, I'm the president! :D

Congrats Rob and Jennie! Have fun looking for your new house. My wife and I have just went through this process and move next week. It is a fun and stressful time all at the same time. Enjoy. Have fun looking at the garages!!!(that was my favorite thing about looking for a new house)

It is a nice piece of property. Around here that much acreage would probably cost 4 to 500 grand.

Congrats Rob. I'm sure the Mrs. won't mind a newer home at all. ;)

It's shame to not develop that land though.

I don't, my good friend Greg Scott (Testarossa owner and fellow SRX7 racer) has a nice muscle car collection. His Superbird was being stored at our place for about a year waiting for him to finish up a couple other cars.

The funny thing was a group of real road runners lived back there. I never got a good pic of them with the car though.

All muscle cars look like camaros to me. The superbird was just ugly with the nose, but he claims it's one of the crown jewels. :) I do want a Boss 302 though for its Trans Am history.

I figured that was the case.My dad had one years ago.He let my uncle borrow it and he claims the spring off the carb came off and it went wide open over a bridge. He hit a rock in someone's driveway the size of a car and pushed it 20-30 feet.I tow truck couldn't budge it I remember playing around it when i was a kid.I think he ended up junking it.Oh well.

    Rob,

Where do you keep your trailer? Just curious, or where will you rather? It is a pretty big enclosed one isn't it? If you move into a small neighborhood with no property how are they going to feel about 6 cars and 3 trailers in your backyard? :)

This is yet to be determined. Storage is no problem at all this place as you can tell, I could of handled 100 more cars and trailers. We're going to stay in the same town and will get a place with at least a half-acre. However, the housing association will have a fit no matter how much land we have. I'm not sure what to do, I'll probably have to rent some outdoor storage for the trailers and RX7's. Hopefully I can keep the Challenge and 328 in the garage.

We close in 3 weeks and this weekend we're looking at several places, so it may not be long before we get our new place. Cool thing is the new owners will rent us the house for $500 a month as long as we want because they bought it as an investment.

I'll miss this place, but just not feasible to afford a new house on it right now.

Here was the listing photo the agent took, shows all the trees...

    Congrats Rob.

By the way the super bird is a crown jewel in anybody's collection. I street raced one for a friend of mine when I was in high school. That was still by far the fastest car I have ever been in. I lifted the front end off the ground shifting into 3rd from 2nd. I really wish I would have purchased the car from him when we were kids.

    What is "super bird"?

Where are you moving to? W/in the same area or different city? Well you can tell us all about it next time we meet up.

Congrat for making profit (I assume) on selling your property. You'll miss this place someday. Good thing you have few pics to remember by.

BTW, I did believe you living in a duct tape house since you said so!

Superbird was a beast built by Plymouth basically a street legal race car. It was 390 or so HP stock. The bird that I drove was around 600 HP uh not so stock.. Mostly came with a 440. I believe the car I drove had a 426 Hemi. Really was a fun time in the old days racing on Tom Braniff road.

We want to stay in Southlake or Keller. We're a little picky as Jennie needs room for a garden and I need room for cars/trailers. Bascially what we're selling now, but with a real house on it. :)

Greg's is the 440, I think the Hemi's are selling for $120-140k now.

Here's my only pic I have of it from awhile back, he's done much work since then. I think he has the newly rebuilt engine and trans in.

    Hey Rob -
I may have to chat with you when you're done with your search. We have been kicking around the idea of moving that direction, but our drive around Southlake was a bit unproductive because we don't know the area well. I would love to have a larger garage, and my wife-to-be-in-3-days really wants more space. Plus, now we have a grand piano and a dog - it's getting a little tight in our condo.

Good for you Rob. I hope it all works out with the new place.. Maybe you'll find a 1200 sq ft home but with a 10 car garage..

Now that's the way to do it.... :)

Does anyone that knows construction tell me how feasible it is to take a typical 3 car garage and knock the back wall out to extend it?

We found a great home with a 3 car that faces the street. It's attached to the house, but there's nothing but yard behind it. We really like everything about it, but this neighborhood we can't build a separate workshop/garage.

Shouldn't be difficult to do, Rob. Important things to consider are: existing building restriction setbacks (both county zoning and covenants & restrictions), record easements, existing underground structures (septic tank, water line, sewer line, services to house, etc.) for starters. Structurally speaking, items like existing roof pitch/plan, wall construction, adjacent grade vs. floor elevation of garage, possible electrical service breaker boxes that might need to be relocated, etc. should be taken into consideration as well.

Would be hard to have a good idea what your up against without having seen the garage, property, property survey and having knowledge of existing county zoning regulations and subdivison / homeowner's association / architectural review board restrictions. All of this (and more) would be factored in by a general contractor / builder when providing an estimate.

Generally speaking, though -- all things considered -- it should not be that big of a deal.
