See pic. The other XK SS, chassis number 725, was also found and brought back by Colin Crabbe. 725 is now owned by Sir Anthony Bamford.

Approximately 8 total C-types, D-types, and XKSS's will be on display Sept 29th at the Santa Fe Concorso in New Mexico.

I know it has been fitted with a D-type body again.
the Michelotti body was sold and rebuilt with an e-type 4.2 chassis and sold. Unfortuantely the E-type body got a new dash that is neither the Michelotti dash or an e-type. The D-type chassis was rebuilt with a proper D-type body and failed to sell at auction in 2009 (reserve not met) Jaguar Club of Central Arizona member Terry Larson
was an owner of the chassis and is a leading authority on D-types. My question is: what did the Michelotti bodied D-type sell for?

The car was reportedly sold to Roland Urban in France and could be in one of three places: America, Spain, or Belgium.

This next query is merely for aesthetics: should the Michelotti body, once it went on the e-type, have had the Michelotti interior fitted? Because it didn't, now the resulting car is betwixt and between, neither the way Michelotti built it or the way jaguar built the e-type (of course I realize it may not have been possible to use the Michelotti dash but I'm jus sayin').

I believe number 17 in the photos above is xkd513 which is the D-type that formally had the Michelotti body on it. At least it looks like the same car. Note Terry did not own the car when it was auctioned in 2009. But he did help with the sale of it.

I have been doing a lot of reading on the C and D types. As I get older these become more interesting.

I agree they are great cars. C-types are easier to drive and much better around town. The D-type is a lot more advanced and is fantastic on the open road. In either car passing another car on a two lane country road is so easy. They rocket from 60 mph to 110 so fast it is easy to pass multiple cars at a time. Also the disc brakes on the D are great, hitting the breaks at 100 mph is like throwing out an anchor. Since the D is more advanced it is more sensitive to its setup. If the engine and clutch are not set up perfectly it can be hell to drive in traffic.

    Cheers Jim
