My friends are continually shaking their collective heads re: my Jeep infatuation, given the other cars I have owned and currently owned. What's cool is:

    1) The Wrangler wave--about 50% of drivers do it
    2) The extensive mod-a-bility--the modern Wrangler can be individually tailored and personalized to each owners whim. (Although it is remarkable how much you can spend.)
    3) It is remarkably capable off road.
    4) I have the dual top option with hard top insulation pads. Warm and quiet in the winter, and I can have a bunch of variations on a convertible (sun rider top flipped back, rear and rear side windows in or out, top up or completely down) with the soft top in the summer.
    5) It is a vehicle that dates from the automotive stone age, so it is much easier to forgive it's sins. And it has huge personality.
    6) The 4 door is actually quite practical--you can, in a pinch, sleep in the back of it. It has reasonable cargo capacity with the back seats folded (and the fold to make a FLAT load floor!).
    7) It is the easiest vehicle I've every owned to change your own oil on.
    8) You can relatively quickly pull the carpets and clean it out with a hose.

It certainly isn't for everyone, but is most certainly fun for some...

maybe they got mileage and price confused?

btw everyone I know who owned one of those loved it, and those who sold theirs regret it. especially with the Hemi.

    Gems they are indeed.

My wife recently sold her Escalade for a SRX. So I'm looking for the right low mileage Commander (2010) to replace my 2011 Liberty Renegade.

Wish me luck (or riches ;) )

Just purchased a new Jeep Wrangler for my wife.

800 miles and a small 1" crack appeared from the base of the windshield.

I will bring it to the dealer next week.

I assume this is not covered under the warranty ?

In other words file with INS or pay cash.

Are there signs of a rock impact? Could be a bad piece of glass, or an issue with the windshield frame? I assuming you haven't folded the windshield forward?

It does not look like a rock impact.

Crack originates from the base of the frame and is about 1" long.

The windshield has not been touched.

The Jeep still has the dealer applied wax.

I wish I had taken pictures, but I was in Moab the week before the Easter safari and got to see some of the cars Jeep brought down. Pretty cool stuff that they really need to consider producing. One of them was driving an Egyptian spec military wrangler with a diesel.

Could be a damaged glass from the factory. A chip(a clam in the trade)on the edge can cause a stress fracture later. If it emanates from underneath the trim I don't see how else it could happen.
Your windshield is two pieces laminated together. If the crack is on the inside that pretty much eliminates the possibility of external causes. You should be able to feel the crack with a razor blade, check if it is inside.
