The progress Kimi made at Lotus does not occur without hard work and determination. He started to lose motivation after getting the financial shaft for a year.

Obviously, it is a different experience back at Maranello. I do not believe he lacks work ethic or determination. I believe he is genuinely upset with himself over his recent results. I mean, he regularly gets fastest race lap, even when he is not in contention for the win. He was near the top of the time sheets throughout practice this weekend. Something isn't right, I don't know what it is, and I do not think ALL of the fault rests on his shoulders.

    Fastest lap doesn't mean anything.

Anyhow, i don't think it's Kimi's fault here. What happened was maybe, just maybe a software issue. Something just isn't dialing in Kimi's car. I think he should start working harder, communicate better with his engineers, and by Monza, we will know whether they're gonna tank him next season.

Why do you say this. I recent read a F1 magazine article about Kimi where McLaren say exactly this, ie. He is not prepared to do anything but turn up on race weekend and drive.

When McLaren built their simulator he refused to use it.

The guy is the modern day Amon, very talented but umbelieveably lazy!!

Kimi returned to F1 unusually motivated as he had to prove he still was competitive. Once he proved that, the usual Kimi returned.

Why anybody hires him is beyond me.

Well I don't like this thread. As a long time tifosi I have always respected our drivers and supported them 100%. We have had many long years of suffering that maybe some younger people don't remember. But Kimi is one of our champions and even some of our drivers that were not champions have my eternal respect. I won't write any more in here because I think it is disrespectful to our driver. But I wanted to share my opinion that this is not how we should treat our champions.

Exactly. And the sooner Ferrari fire him, the better.

He shouldn't have been given the drive this year.

While I understand your sentiment, even champions have their day and that is what has happened here.

I was a huge Kimi fan when he started in F1 but even in 2007 he was not the best driver on the grid.

Let's hope he retires with dignity.

    Pete,

I think I've written this already, but Chris Amon was absolutely not lazy at all: I have a Mauro Forghieri interview from 1985, in a french magazine, in which Forghieri says that Chris will remain his all-time favorite driver, and that Chris was the hardest working driver of all the drivers he worked with during his entire career at the Scuderia, spending an incredible number of hours testing cars...

I also have this idea, that Amon was a great test driver, very good in every aspect...just born without any luck....(something similar with certain Jean Alesi)

So, do we agree that the time it is taking Ferrari to renew Kimi's contract is just window
dressing and they've already signed Bottas for 2016?

Unlikely we will know until after the summer break at the earliest… But let's hope. Given how this season is panning out, the best solution would be for Kimi to see the writing on the wall, and either jump to another team first, or retire before being fired.

Hope not, If Kimi is to be replaced i really hope it will be Hulkenberg and not Bottas....my shorlist for the job would be Ricci, Hulk and Bottas, but i guess Ricci will be more expensive (no problem) and i'm not sure if Seb will want him, between the other 2, i guess Hulk will be cheaper and to me he is better than Bottas, so he would be my favourite for the job...

I don't believe that is entirely accurate. Yes, Blockhead did mention that Kimi wouldn't use the simulator - only to show-up and beat him on race day. At that time, Kimi did not believe the simulator was developed enough to help him improve. He likely felt there were more productive things to do instead of using he simulator.

Ferrari had their chance to draft Hulkenberg (twice IIRC) passing both
    times.

Hulkenberg has seen the light, he should go to WEC, which is a far more
relevant series anyway, for the top seat with Porsche.

Bottas is high on the list, they'd better get on with it.

I think Hulk is still a better shot over Bottas. With a Merc engine, what has Bottas done that really stands out? Hardly much i think. Hulk though, he got a pole in Brazil a few years ago...plus, he uses Dekra caps :)

27 vs 77.... Which one do you think Ferrari would pick to paint on a red car? ;)

Relevant to what exactly? I like the WEC, but that is a racing series that only racing fans know. F1 transcends just racing - everyone knows F1.

Hulk won't get F1 money either in the WEC sharing a car with two other drivers.

You can always go to the WEC later in life as a former F1 driver, the reverse is not true. Best to stay in F1 as long as possible IMHO.

One has to try it first before saying it was not developed enough ... Come on he clearly said he would do no between races work.

And for F sake guys, Hulk is useless as it appears is Bottas.
