    Hilarious about parents...but also good.

IMHO, he needs to put in his time just like other champions in the secondary teams. This is especially true not having any much formula experience. Too big of a risk and too inexperienced just yet for a big team would be my guess.

Plus we don't know how he will handle being in a top car with a teammate who is also very fast. Chemistry counts.

They said Kimi was too young at one time, too...

Ideally, Max could use one more year of maturing. However, last time Ferrari waited too long to get a top young driver. They finally got him, but at a much higher price.

I would prefer Ferrari to keep Kimi for one more year. I truly believe he has been instrumental in getting the car where it is today. Another year of development with Kimi, then begin a new Era with the Champion veteran and the next generation Champion for 2017. I am not sure Ferrari has the luxury of planning that far ahead. They may have to make changes sooner, or suffer having to replace Kimi with a has-been or never-will-be in 2016.

Seems like they are grooming some young Italian drivers though no? Is that the ultimate succession plan? Seems like a large investment. I wonder how that factors in...

+1 I think that Red Bull has the best approach. The car is 90% of the equation, driver is 10% so spend the budget on the car. There are plenty of talented drivers out there who will drive for Ferrari for peanuts, and who will deliver results equal to or better than Kimi.

Agree. That old 50-50 equation has been in the history books for years IMHO.

Love this (as I obviously would).
Their current drivers in their young drivers program are questionable at best.

We have Marciello, who did great in F3 but hasn't really impressed since. Lots of crashes last year in GP2, I'd expect him to be better this year but so far no really.

Antonio Fuoco is their other hopeful, who got soundly beaten by Esteban Ocon (his teammate) in F3 and Verstappen, he got almost half the points of Ocon...

Then there is that Canadian kid Lance Stroll they've been supporting for a few years now but apparently thinks he's on his playstation and that there are reset buttons. He's just been banned for a race but I doubt he'll learn. He's got either no spacial awareness or is just an idiot.

    Obviously we had Bianchi...

That said I would love to see the Hulk at Ferrari, he wants it badly and deserves it IMO.

Personally, I'm not convinced. Like many others he "burst" onto the scene in quite impressive fashion. But, and admittedly I haven't checked properly, he doesn't seem to have done a lot since - Fairly regularly beaten my his 'mate I believe.

To me, he's another journeyman who'll do "OK", but he's not about to set the world alight IMO.

Further, didn't he turn down an offer from LdM a while back? Don't know if it's true, but IIRC the story at the time was he wanted too much money. (?)

I've said before, I'd stick with Ice next season and watch how young Max develops. He *may* be the real deal, but I'd like to see another "decent" season from him before commiting.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I disagree with you on The Hulk but agree with you about Max--his arrival calls to mind Alex Wurz in some ways.

Can't agree with you Ian, He as outperformed all of his teammates, he ended Di resta carreer, he was better than Checo (and checo was as good as Button at Mclaren) and keeps being better....he is very good at one to one batles, makes few mistakes, his resumé is impressive before f.1....i truly think he is something special.....

+1 the key word is "battles". He is a warrior on the track, races wheel to wheel and seldom makes a mistake.

    Fair enough! ;)

The list of "almosts" is *long*.

Some of them may have been able to up their game given a decent seat, but most are midfielders at best. The truly superior guys are few & far between, and often very difficult to spot.

A few, Ayrton being the most obvious, are simply head & shoulders above the others in the junior ranks. I related this before - Ayrton was in British FF when I was doing F3. If we weren't busy, we'd watch his final. He was generally on pole and simply ran away from the field. Something almost impossible to do in FF. We *knew*, even back then, we were watching someone destined for greatness.

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Again, "fair enough"! :)

I could very well be wrong about him.

Not sure I'd say Checo was as good as JB at McSplutter, but we'll see soon I guess. Hopefully, he (or his agent?) didn't burn any bridges last time round.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Thanks for all the info and your take on them. I've read a few articles, but this is a great summary.

Thats true my friend. Come to think of it, suddenly most of the grid deserves the spot compared to Kimi.

I really hope he will pull his socks up and continue to push, and make no mistakes.

yeah? hard to tell from that angle, you'd need to see it from the top, but wasn't Alonso next to him when kimi went sideways and hit him?

I think that's what it would look like from the side no?

From there to me looks almost as if Alonso is behind, touches one of Kimi's rear tyres and makes him loose control

There's no footage from Alonso or from any of the cars directly behind, which is strange considering all the cars carry cameras.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
