I think the keyword is Gentleman. And he actually makes a good point. I think maybe only Button and Vettel (?) could fit in, though.
Myself, I like individuals who give a hard time to journalists and ignore the attention of the public. The only action I am interested in is on the track. Well rehearsed PR exercises and polite answers to stupid questions don't interest me. Most of the events in GP are self-explanatory and don't need to be analysed over and over again by commentators and interviewers. It's tiresome. In fact, I think very often it's the media that stir up the animosity between some drivers, just like they do in show business, etc... They like to spread rumours, arrange for slanging matches, misquote, etc... Why can't the media just report and stop trying to form opinions? I have no time for the press generally, as you can guess.
Ya think! While I agree that a lot of it (the majority?) is indeed rubbish worthy only of the bottom of the bird cage, at the other extreme it's a noble profession. Many 'scams' and othe 'bad things' have only been uncovered due to diligent journo's. OK, F1 is hardly Watergate, but I for one enjoy, eg, Teds notebook where he goes poking around the garages etc. This often adds a little interest - for me anyway. Sure, a lot of of it is puerile canned PR crap, but that's why so many of us 'love' Kimi for example. Cheers, Ian
^^^ This. For the pre & post GP coverage, I generally fast forward to his notebook segment. I also do like some of Brundel's tech segments (but not so much his grid walk; overly-revered IMO).
Now after those words if he does not deliver... Changed Raikkonen set for big 2016 in F1, Ferrari president says - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com Rgds
Unless Kimi wins the WDC, I suspect he will bow-out. He's got yachts to charter and ice cream to eat.
Not necessarily WDC...I suspect it'll be how close he is to seb. If he matches him often enough and Ferrari is challenging for the title I can see him staying. If he does leave, too slow or whatever, I hope Verstappen has another super year and will join Ferrari...
I think Kimi can consistently challenge Vettel this year. Basically it's a do or die year for him to convince the big bosses he's worth the Ferrari seat.
That's the other piece of the puzzle. Verstappen. If Ferrari keep Kimi for 2017, they will loose Verstappen. I would hope they have already secured him for 2017. I believe that is the correct path for both team and driver.
And with that, we have Vettel in the puzzle too . Max is very quick and highly entertaining driver, we don't know if he'll match Vettel in speed...but if he does, that'll create another headache. Vettel won't roll over for a relative rookie, since it's ''his'' team, and Verstappen won't bow to Vettel since Verstappen has a thing to prove! If anything, we'll probably see Verstappen at Mercedes or an improved (?) RBR in 2017, and Ferrari picks him up in 4-5 years time. When he's 22-23 (sounds scary, that!).
+1 I think Ferrari will go all out to put Verstappen in the team with Vettel for 2017. Attack of the Killer V's!
I do not think Verstappen will challenge Vettel to that extent. Not yet, anyway. Regardless, I see Vettel having things "his way" at Ferrari if Verstappen joins. The team will back Vettel just as they did MS. Barichello and Massa were just as quick as MS at times, but the team was sure to keep MS in contention for WDC. Verstappen may be brash, but even he wouldn't screw with the team at Ferrari. He has not been noted as "stupid".
Hey guys, check out this video! It might interest you given the name of the thread... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4Fp7NzyfNs[/ame]
It always surprises me that Ferrari take too long to pick up good drivers and take too long to fire end of life ones...
+1 Sure, they're paid to drive - in many cases millions of $. However, a large part of the reason for that is us - the fans - who watch 'em every couple of weeks, both live & on the 'box. Yes, the press conferences must get old for them & the team principals, but I agree, I don't think we're asking too much of them. Give something back to the fans! It's not like it's days of their lives. A little presser every couple of weeks during the season shouldn't be too much of an issue. Also seems many of the "youngsters" (Max obviously springs to mind) have been raised & trained in "PR speak" from a very young age. It's certainly a part of the Red Bull driver program, and I suspect all the teams do it these days. Don't like it? Don't be an F1 driver! Cheers, Ian
Yeah, but you can see these press conferences being so false, that I really wonder what Jo public get out of it. They are really embarrassing to watch. The questions are so carefully chosen, and the answers well rehearsed, that you never learn anything you didn't know before anyway. The drivers and the team managers look like ducks in a shooting galery. You can see there is no spontaneity, no sincerity. That makes me cringe. It would be better to arrange 1-to-1 interviews than these fake conferences, IMO. I understand that the FIA, and Ecclestone insist upon having them, and that everyone has to submit to them. Frankly, the media aspect in F1 is a big, big let down.
Drivers like Kimi, ie those who blow off the press on a regular basis, are only amusing because there are so few of them. In fact, it's just Kimi. If every driver on the grid in any form of motorsport refused to talk, the sponsors would get very anxious. Think about it; NASCAR wouldn't have a 1 1/2 hr pre-race show if all they showed was guys rolling cars onto the grid. If you run the corporation that sells Anusol, then you want your driver speaking on TV before & after the race. You Know, "well, the Anusol Chevy was running well before it was read-ended ...".
LOL! Was the Anusol Chevy rear-ended by the Liquid Wrench Ford? Stalking close behind was the Kano Kroil Dodge... All the best, Andrew. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Kimi sucks? Well, sitting at No 2 in the 2016 WDC after 5 rounds is not too shabby in my book, doing a pretty solid job. Unable to get past Max in Spain, who drove superbly with a superior car. Bit too early to write him off for next year.
