Massa predicted exactly the situation with Kimi because the team is built around 1 driver not 2. It applied to Massa as well with his time at Ferrari. We see this clearly now. Massa is not a bad driver nor is Kimi. They face a system not geared at all to support them fully. Does Kimi suck. No and Ive been having a bit of fun with this thread same as those with the Massa thread.

The issue in larger sense is the team and its structure including its leadership.

So you guys would prefer the team designed a compromised car that tried to suit two different driving styles? Come on the design of every car on the grid is centred on the number 1 driver as it has to be if you want to be winners.

The mistake is not there, it is with the hiring of Kimi. Why hire a driver that has such different style.

Two times Ferrari have made the same mistake, Kimi belongs at Ferrari as much as their road car devision taking on the Corolla next year for best small passenger car.

Wether we like it or not, he IS the last driver to have won a WDC at the wheel of a Ferrari; that alone is sufficient to make him more important than Alonso in the grand scheme of the Ferrari history, when we will look at it in twenty years from now.
As for Fernando, I do hope for him that one day he would be winning the crown at the wheel of a Ferrari, but I seriously doubt this will be the case; and therefore, he will leave Ferrari with a taste of unfinished business.

Kimi's been to my local indoor kart track while I was racing there, its interesting to see how someone drives when you have the same equipment.

Given this, I'd also add, I didn't expect these new rules to suit Kimi's style either. He wants a setup with understeer, and the low noses, and their reduced rear under downforce gives the car a natural over steer aero balance.

When he was at Lotus - it was all about tire management, especially the rears his style let him keep the car under control, and with good tires to go for podiums.

Alonso on the otherhand, is really really good with the new handling aero package, not gonna say it suits him - just that he can adjust its difficulty better than others. The real hurt for Ferrari, is engine package isn't up to stuff compared to mercedes powerplants.

Technically yes. Their driving styles are polar opposites. Ferrari should in reality have hired a driver that has the same driving style as Alonso.

We don't know what Kimi has been promised by Ferrari in regards what car they would give him. In the end there weren't many seats he could choose from so maybe he hoped for the best...All we can hope for in 2015 he'll have a car so he can match Alonso consistently.

Quite the contrary; He's increasingly frustrated with the team (and I suppose himself to an extent).

I like Kimi a lot as a person, more than most other drivers but this was him pushing way too hard and then (as he left the track) going way too fast over the dirt. Red mist.

No way! I was just told in the race thread Kimi has no blame whatsoever! It was the fault of the guy who ran him wide!!!

Had the bump not been there (which was small and in a place far away from where on normally would rejoin to go completely unnoticed), the manner he rejoined wouldn't have been an issue.

Regardless, the bump was there, jumped the car, and that was that. Hello wall.

On the bright side, that answers the accusation that Kimi doesn't try hard enough.

I have little doubt if you ask any driver before the race if there was a small bump THAT far off where one normally rejoins there after running wide they'd have known it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it?

He tried, caught the bump and crashed.

As others say, at least he bloody tried. Had he gotten to a crawl and slowly rejoined the track in stone dead last there would now be 30 extra posts here saying he's lost the will to drive

Kimi should quit F1 because F1 is not hardcore racing anymore.

you can see Hamilton sometimes struggling and that is because hamilton & Kimi are both born racers men who want to drive on the limit not fuel saving, tire saving endurance racing.

on pure speed those 2 are the best drivers on the grid.

If that were true, then all the cars on the grid could be better tuned, engine power the only difference. For years I have been saying the same, F1 cars are designed one driver, very few instances there have been two drivers with the same driving style.

I don't have a problem with Kimi crashing per se. Yes, at least he tried.

I'm just saying that it was his fault and nobody else's.

    True in both respects.

The culvert that tossed him had never been an issue before. Just a series of bad incidents.

In the old days (and for some drivers still today) F1 drivers walked/jogged/bicycled the tracks to get to know them in detail. Might take a while around a place like Silverstone, then again this track has been around for decades.
