I wasn’t going for a perfect replica - this has front and rear disc brakes (original had only rear drum), 6 speed transmission (original had 4 speed) and, while you can kick start it, I hid a starter on it too.

The chicks dig it!

For me it would be a BMW RT. Easy to ride. Nice controls. Good on the highway and good enough in the twisties. Enough fairing to extend the season or ride in a couple of hours of rain. Lots of range. Maybe a FJR1300 just because of the extra thrust.
The GS is great but I'm not going off road.

 

My BMW R1200GSA. Before I got it, I would have said my Triumph Tiger, but the more time I spend on the GSA, the more I love it.

The good news, though, is that bikes are relatively inexpensive to buy, own, and operate, so no real reason to limit yourself to one!

 

This one I would not own as my ONLY bike, but it certainly makes a nice companion for the GSA...

That's exactly what happened to me with my GS. Neutral when I bought it and I really like it now.
I still think they are ugly.

 

I have sold my track bike, a Gixxer 750 and my BMW S1000R for various reasons. I now only have my Yamaha WR250R, and if was my last bike I'd be happy. I love this thing. Having said that I plan to buy a "slow" sport bike in the future, maybe a Ducati Monster from the 90s.

I decided that I enjoy "adventure touring" with a bit of gravel mixed in, otherwise I would say my Triumph Sprint ST could easily be the one bike for me. It is just superb-- smooth, fast, comfortable, reasonably practical, can do long days with it or take the bags off and have fun on a day ride. Really a tremendous bike.

Heavy, uncomfortable, lousy turning circle, and I need a physiotherapist if I ride it for more than 20 mins... but I love it!

By the time the riding day was up those type of motorcycles made me feel old before I really was old.

 

The riding position of the S1000R (not the double R, single R has a handlebar) was fine, but it produced a lot of adrenaline and at the time adrenaline turned into anger. You can find my thread about Save A Warrior, but I'm much better now yet still avoid making adrenaline. If I don't get a Monster I'll probably get a CBR 600, VFR 750, or CBR 900 from the late 90s or early 00s and only ride it for an hour a week. LOL.

 

Monster is a wonderful bike (I used to own one), but I would strongly suggest looking at the Triumph Street Triple instead. That Triumph motor is just so smooth and refined.

 

I'm open to them all, and I've owned a Monster already, the 2009 S and did everything well but was slow on turn-in. I just don't want anything with over 130ish HP.

The friends I have who ride KTMs, and there are a number of them, are over the top in how much they love those bikes. Then you get to asking them about the reliability... well, sure, they break down once in a while (okay, more than once in a while), and some pieces fall off, but what do you expect?

I have never understood the complete love that KTM owners have for their bikes, in spite of the facts. And I've ridden a few of them, found them to be okay, when they are working. I would take either a Triumph Tiger or BMW any day over any KTM... for that matter, I'd probably take a Harley PanAmerica. But I'm sure someone who loves KTM will chime in here before long... it's like a bat signal.
