Best drivers currently driving on the grid that I wish was driving in equal equipment as Hamilton: • Alonso • Lerclerc • Ricciardo • Verstappen • Vettel
Well when you are the best, you can say it. Alonzo is the best driver in a decade. Period. Nobody else is close.
There you go yet again! (teasing us with your “one massive reason,” but without providing any of,the salient details) Teasing readers of this FChat thread with very vague assertions. As I said a few days ago, put up or shut up.
You are dreaming... as stated before he hasn't won a race in over 5 years and when was his last WDC? He'll go down as a footnote as a driver unless he wins the triple crown. While Hamilton will go down as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time.
Fortunately there are people whose knowledge of F1 goes beyond counting titles on wikipedia... and none of them considers Fernando as a footnote of F1. Gesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk
Agreed! We fantasize so much about drivers being in the same equipment so it can reveal who is better. In 2007 the stars aligned and we got EXACTLY that. Lewis scored more poles than Alonso in his ROOKIE year. Nothing on this earth can make me think Alonso is better than Lewis. I go buy real world events. I don't live in la la land.
I think it’s ridiculous to claim Alonso is better than Ham or Ham is better than Alonso. Same for Vettel. Those three are the standout drivers on the current grid with multiple WDCs to their names. That’s a fact. As for the future, perhaps Ricci or Max could win a WDC, but until they get into a decent car we will never know. There are a couple of good rookies that show promise - LeClerc and Gasly. I hope they flourish and become champions one day. The rest are just making up the numbers and are very unlikely to amount to much.
To quote your best friend william: "Even the best can't win all the time." lolol. All jokes aside, the stats of 2007 will show that neither was better than the other...they both finished w the same 109 pts and both their immaturity at the time let Kimi snag the WDC by 1 measly point.
So your putting Alonso and Ham on the same level, you're gonna make a lot of Ham haters mad here.... oh wait maybe not, i see you have some likes with that post
Hmmmm, now you're adding words to my mouth. You said nothing in the world can make you think Alonso is better than Hamilton based on what you saw in 2007, and all I said in response is that Hamilton was no better than Alonso in 2007. And to add further context, based on your own contradicting rationale, Alonso is UNQUESTIONABLY better than Hamilton because Hamilton could barely eek by Button who Alonso has STATISTICALLY put to shame. Here are Hamilton vs Button stats during their time together at Mclaren for you to chew on: Qualifying Faster qualifying time: Hamilton 44 / Button 14 Poles: Hamilton 9 / Button 1 Front rows: Hamilton: 23 / Button 9 Races Wins: Hamilton 10 / Button 8 Podiums: Hamilton 22 / Button 25 Points finishes: Hamilton 45 / Button 47 DNFs: Hamilton 13 / Button 8 Best race result (inc DNFs): Hamilton 32 / Button 26 Ahead in two-car finish: Hamilton 24 / Button 13 Championship Overall points: Hamilton 657 / Button 672 Seasons finished higher in standings: Hamilton 2 / Button 1 Highest championship placing: Hamilton 4th (2010, 2012) / Button 2nd (2011) Using Button as the constant benchmark between Alonso and Hamilton, one can conclude Alonso is the better driver since he convincingly out-qualified Button pretty much all the time, and significantly outscored Button the whole time they were teammates. And since you have little to no appreciation for Alonso's talent, he is the only driver currently driving on the grid who has been able to beat Schumacher at his prime and surely, we can all agree Schumacher is one of the all-time greats.
Yes, Hamilton and Alonso finished the 2007 season with the same number of wins (4 each), and the same number of point, although the FIA decided to place Hamilton 2nd, and Alonso 3rd. Don't ask me why. Alonso was a twice WDC, Hamilton a rookie, remember! But the fact is that signing with McLaren to be paired with a rookie, Alonso never expected to be challenged in the team. Finding a newcomer often quicker than him, and a partner not willing to yield to his demands became too much for the double world champion. He expected Ron Dennis to give him precedence, but no team order came, and the situation soon became unbearable for the sulky spaniard. So, before the end of the season, he betrayed his employer and then threw his teddy out of the pram, resigning spectacularly from McLaren. I personally think that 2007 saw Alonso lose self confidence, and the humiliation he endured was a turning point in his career. During his return at Renault and the spell at Ferrari, he was never the same, IMO. With insight, it was a catastrophic mistake for Ron Dennis to sign him again. Alonso is the typical individual living off past reputation.
Yet he has outdriven pretty much anyone he's been paired with now and in the past? Want me to pull up more stats for you? lol
He is so good that he last won in 2013 (in F1 that is), and is on nobody's wish list. His last championship was 12 years ago, FFS !!! We are talking about NOW !!!!
Right, because F1 revolves only around the driver and not the equipment he is tasked to drive. This is where the "luck and in 20/20 hindsight career decisions" aspect come into play, which I should remind you that YOU HAVE DISMISSED AS IRRELEVANT come into the picture, at least for folks looking to be a little more sensible.
Since you want to post stats what do you make of Ham beating Alonso in poles (2007) and ranking above Alonso by FIA? All while against a driver who beat Schumacher in his prime?
Do you know why the FIA made that decision? Coz I don't. And since you like to cherry pick your arguments and avoid everything else, Alonso beat Schumacher in equipment measured to be equal or inferior to the equipment Schumacher was driving at the time...and you want to compare Hamilton in an UNEQUIVOCALLY PROVEN SUPERIOR MERCEDES EQUIPMENT to anything else on the grid to that? This year has been the 1st year anyone has remotely even come close to challenging the Mercedes dominance just in case you haven't been watching the last 4 years... You are kidding me right? Might not be obvious to you, but that's like really stupid...I've gone out of my way to provide as much context but you're still only able to pluck stuff completely out of context lol I donno if that's sheer talent for annoyance or just sheer stupidity at this point... Have a good one.
Why are you constantly jerking off to the pole statistic? As far as I remember NOBODY ever got points for a pole and even today they only get a stupid little tire for that.... Alonso might not be the best qualifier but the fact that despite starting lower on the grid achieving the same amount of points shows he is the better racer in the race, something people call race craft . It is ridiculous how "being even in points" came to "Lewis beat Alonso", to "Lewis destroyed Alonso"....in a team that was obviously behind Lewis... Alonso was closer to winning the WDC against Vettel in the RB in a Ferrari than Lewis ever was in the McLaren and please don't tell me the Ferrari was the better car..one single place and people would worship him here for being the last Ferrari champion. And then some "experts" call him a footnote in F1. I personally do not like him but I still rate him higher than Lewis... Gesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk
Don't get testy when i post my stats. You're the one who started stat posting. Ham out performed Alonso in 2007- tied in points but beat him in poles. It is what it is. Nothing we can do about it
Alonso chose his career path. In life, you make your own luck, up to a point. Alonso left a trail of inrigues, deceit and betrayal every where he went. The guy is toxic, and that's why he find himself in the situation he is in. Being a top racing driver isn't only about putting quick lap times; there is a whole package that should come with it. When he was Under Briatore's wing, Alonso received preferential treatment. Flavio used to smooth things for him, but left to his own, Alonso's personality is quite self-destructive. He betrayed his teams, kept on criticising, leaked to the media, got people sacked, etc... all that not very conclusive to create a good environment around him, is it? Alonso isn't F1 favourite child, is he? Who wants him now? That give you all the answers.
+1 Alonso was supposed to be #1 driver. Lewis being incredibly popular with the brits (they finally had a driver again in a car that could win), caused a shift in status. Then Hungary happened: Lewis was supposed to give Alonso a tow but refused to do so, leading Alonso to use ''tactics'' to get back at Hamilton....this caused outrage by the British media (funny thing: F1 media is extremely British, and Alonso was very much looked like the bad guy). Alonso was pissed, Ron didn't do anything to punish Lewis, which led to Alonso saying ''its either him or me''...with Alonso threatening Ron that he had the details of Mclaren stealing Ferrari's 4000+ page book containing every single bit of their F2007. Ron took the gamble and called ******** on Alonso being a whistleblower and continued to back Lewis. Bad move. Alonso went to the FIA, he was granted immunity and the rest is history. Now, with Alonso very obviously on the way out of Mclaren....why do people still think Ron would back Alonso with anything but the bare minimum support needed? The team was fully behind Lewis at this point, he of course had been receiving Mclaren support since his early days and Mclaren figured he'd be there for the foreseeable future, unlike Alonso who would only be there for less than half a season anymore. Alonso, in his anger, was still a formidable force however, and outscored the fully backed Lewis despite both finishing an equal amount of races.
