Rosberg was established at Mercedes when Hamilton arrived. Bottas joined Mercedes when Hamilton was already there. The conditions were not the same.

Yes, Mercedes have adopted the Ferrari MO to protect Lewis. In terms of pure speed the telemetry traces reveal it was Michael's driving technique which garnered him 2/10ths through a single corner such as Copse over Rubens. Michael was simply head and shoulders above all his team mates, with or without team orders. If Toto had hired Ricciardo I am certain he would give Lewis a tough challenge, as Nico did.
In sheer speed for qualifs, probably. But in a Wheel-to-Wheel situation, I don't think Ricciardo would be Superior to Hamilton who is really diabolic when it comes to dicing with an opponent. Close fighting and overtaking techniques have been Hamilton's trademarks, and made him the leader of the pack.. On one lap, Bottas, Ricciardo or even Vette can be as fast, if not faster, than Hamilton, as Rosberg was. But in a tight situation, my money is on Hamilton to win a duel.
