Actually I was wearing a Massa hat last year at the Monza GP.

...it was the cheapest hat they sold at the F1 stores.

    True story.

It was the second stop where Alonso pitted before Massa. This allowed Alonso to jump Massa, Vettel and Sutil.

I can't believe people are still surprised that Ferrari favour Alonso over Massa!

What have these people been watching for the past 4 years? - re-runs of the 2008 season?

Actually it'd be great for both championships if he gives Alonso a run for his money.

Just to be clear: I don't want Massa to suck. And if he continues the way he drove in Australia, I won't have a problem at all.

The only one who hosed Massa was Massa himself as he couldn't drive as fast as Alonso --- again.

That's the big question, can he keep that sort of driving up all season or is his head going to drop too much when things don't go right?

That's one of the biggest differences between Alonso and Massa, If the car's not perfect, Alonso forces a performance out of it whereas recent history has shown that Massa has a tendency to simply give up and just tootle around holding station.

Credit where credit is due though, Massa looked very racey this weekend and I hope it's the start of a great season for him (and Ferrari's WCC hopes! ;) )

Maybe he will have a better season as this car is easier to drive. The rest seems to be his motivation and so far that's going strong.

    Fred vs Massa:

Wanna convince me that Massa is the better driver? Have him actually DRIVE faster. That might be a pretty good place to start.

If he drives almost as fast as Alonso this season then I'll be happy with that! :)

I agree. I wish he was pressuring Vettel more at the end of the race. I don't blame him -- but I don't think it's some grand conspiracy either.

He drove a good race and got points. Plenty good enough. We need another WCC. Luca has to make a new "17M" car next year.

At least it looks like we should have two drivers earning points for the WCC instead of just Alonso, as it seems to have been in the last few seasons!

Luca's probably going to order the badges tomorrow! - Only they'll be "La 17M" badges! :D

I might be setting the bar low for Massa fans, but I just want him to consistently score points for the team. The car's good, balance is to his liking and most importantly the steering response as also, so there are no more excuses.

If he can score at least 10pts at every GP, I feel he has already done a superb job. If he beats Alo sometimes all the better!

Massa has now set a new record as a Ferrari driver: Longest time without a victory

Previously Alesi held that "honor" with no victory from 1991 to 1995.

Massa's last win goes back to 2008.

I met and spoke to Massa yesterday, at the F1 Gala Dinner. He seemed very focused, and he looked fit. The weather doesn't seem to bother him. His dad and mom are friendly people too. Very polite and courteous.

Shook his hand at the end and wished him all the best for the race and the season. 'Thank you very much' was his reply. Looking forward to him doing well.

I realize you just don't like the man (as a Scuderia driver) and look for anyway to tweek on those of us that do support him. But perhaps we should consider his missed 1/2 season in 2009 and give him a time credit as he actually wasn't racing during that time...

The AUS results would have been different had they pitted FM first in the second stint. Just sayin'.

Not really. Alonso beat him by over 20 seconds.

We'll never really know will we? However, he was ahead and not really being pressured by FA at the time. After the pitstops shuffled through he was behind... They were very evenly matched during the entire race.

We all know FA will get the preferred strategy and Sunday that was the first available to get off the wearing tires. I suppose it is better this way than having FM ahead and being told to move over again - in the first race!

20+ seconds is not "very evenly matched"

    Geez you don't get it.

LDM would rather have Alonso finish second than have Massa win the race. Now do you understand?

Makes perfect sense -- on planet nonsense.

Actually I was just passing on some statistics I found in a racing magazine.

That aside I don't like the guy and wish he wasn't in a Ferrari anymore.

Did you ever worked as a mechanic in Barrichelo´s Brawn during the 2009 Hungarian g.p?

    Fair play to you! :)

One of the biggest frustrations with Massa is that he seems to be a very likeable guy outside the car - and one of the most annoying inside the car when things aren't going so well and he seems to "switch off" mentally!

Hopefully his season will continue in the same vain as Melbourne though and Ferrari will have the old Massa back!
