I think Massa did alright today. Due to the tire issue, he got bumped down to P20 then climbed back to P6.

+1 a strong good points winning performance was ruined. He did well to recover both from his crash Friday and today's tire issue. Well done!

Agreed. He had a crappy qualifying, but rebounded with an amazing start. If not for the Pirelli Bomb going off on his hind quarter, he was looking to have an exceptional (for him) race. Even so, going from a mid pack start to dead last and then back up to 6? That would count as an exceptional drive in almost anyone's books.

Trouble is, he seems to be like the co-worker that everything goes wrong for. You like them, they work hard, but if anything ever is going to blow up, it blows up on their watch.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I really really like the guy, and he is a really talented driver. Just maybe F1 isn't for him any more.

Honestly, Massa impressed me greatly today.

First, he took off and blew away Alonso on the start. Alonso got trapped a bit but seeing Massa streak past him on the left was pretty amazing.

Next, it's hard to find him to blame on his tire problem. But, he fought back and finished 6th. Some of his passes were great.

The problem is still in qualifying. That was abismal.

If you ace every tenth test and blow the rest you still fail the course.

Come on, guys, this is the Massa sucks thread! Can't be so complimentary! ;)

How about... Massa sucks, of the 5 drivers to experience the Pirelli left rear blowouts, he was the only one to spin off. The other drivers were all able to control the car without spinning... :p

Seriously, Massa did have a great start, and recovered well from the tire failure. We can't even blame his fondness for taking too much kerb for this, since it hit so many other drivers as well.

He had a spin scheduled for that lap already. The blow out was coincidental.

The others all blew on the straight. His was the only P-Bomb that went off IN the turn. Given that, I would say his car control was equal to or better than the others.

Dang. There I go again giving the guy the benefit of the doubt.

    Don't underestimate the haters. ;)
    They'll find a way.

Alonso didn't do so hot in quali, either.

As for a crash in practice, ... remember how many times Schumi used to go off in practice? To push to the limit, you have to find the limit ... often by going past it.

And did you notice, in P2 (not P1, where most didn't turn a wheel), that when Massa's car came unglued, it was on the unmarked Pirelli "experimental" tires?
And that shortly after, Alonso's back end -- with the same tires -- came unstuck at the same place?
The difference is that Alonso caught it before it left the track.

If Felipe has a weak point, it's that he doesn't seem to be able to haul the car back under control, once it goes walkabout.

Reflexes slow down, after you're married? :p
(Felipe *is* older than Fernando ... by three months. :D)

Anyone else notice that Massa did four stops, including the blown tire?
He gained a lot of positions, to catch up, but he wore out option tires in six to eight laps doing it.
(Or they were just nervous about having them blow up again.)

Remember the race where both Ferrari drivers just ran the tires off the car, doing as many stops as needed?
    Did pretty well, too.
Maybe that's *still* the right answer ... as long as the tires don't frag.

I can't imagine Pirelli is selling many tires from their F1 participation. ;)
