I think Max deserves his own thread. So far, there is no evidence he listens to anyone.

I'm saying if you go off line to block, then stay off line. It's a calculated risk to block. Or, what most other racers do, let the overtaker "earn" the pass by making him go off line. Doesn't that make sense Maxie??

 

Management definitely needs to undo the "monster they have created." They bear responsibility. Let's see what comes out of management the remaining of the 2018 season.

Thought I would throw this in as it bears the same outcome as Baku 2018. Spain 2012-->Bruno Senna and Michael Schumacher where Senna moving to the inside (1), than outside (2) and Schumacher crashed into him. Stewards were to blame Schumacher and handed him a 5 place grid penalty for Monaco. I realize the inconsistency's of some of these penalties.

 

I agree however there is more to it because the FIA are allowing it as well. Here is my post from another thread.

It couldn't be any clearer that Max's antics are tolerated only because of the influence his chaos brings to the championship. There is no other reason that everyone would be tolerating his trail of debris and repair bills left behind at every single race.

 

Max is talented and still a kid. He’s undoubtedly under intense pressure from his family members and management team what befalls him should he finish second to DR in points, wins, podiums or any combination thereof this season and the ‘talented but journeyman’ status attached he’ll likely be facing unless a stronger team is willing to pick him up cheap. Because he’s fallen behind Dan in points early, he’s drowning in self induced mist and was willing to be reckless to gain results. A chat with Horner and Marko will put this right and after a palpable threat of flipping him down to the Minardi (aka Kvyated) ), he’ll see the light. No one had a rougher start than GV or Patrese in F1, Gilles was dropped by Mclaren because the team saw signs he’d be hard on equipment (easy call), when he got his second chance with Ferrari, he had a tragic accident with Peterson causing the deaths of two spectators and injuring others. He went on to become perhaps the best teammate in F1 history and was undoubtedly going to become a WDC. Patrese was vilified after a similarly tragic incident (also involving Ronnie) and the Driver’s association banned him from a few races after Ronnie’s death. He stayed on the scene ( with Bernie’s help) and finished his career strongly with well over 200 races on his resume. I don’t believe the out of control murmurings will last long re Max.

 

When a boy intentionally fires a gun at someone knowing the consiquences is he still a boy? Max is as accountable as ANY other driver in the grid. PERIOD.

 

The team is allowing a driver to inset himself and affect the titles. Max cannot win the WDC as it stands. This situation is now in Red Bull's hands completely. He appears to have learned zero from China. Horner / Marko must fix this or move him out if he continues. Not at all a rookie now, his talent is openly worth reviewing.

Good historical perspective. I think that the key distinction between the debuts of Gilles and Patrese and that of Max is that F1 was incredibly dangerous in the 1970's and 80's. It has been sanitized now to the point that Max doesn't fear injury to himself or to others, it is that safe. Bear in mind that he has 64 F1 starts under his belt. Slow learner or enabled bully?

 

"Slow learner or enabled bully?" - That's exactly the question that his Red Bull team managers and the FIA have to seriously answer, quickly!!

 

No as no team would. Politically this is a no win situation for Red Bull. Max should not be able to affect a championship he cannot win and he has to realize that. He in my opinion has very little of a big picture. His focus on not letting Ricci past when it was clear he was slower is the team issue. I dont feel bad for Horner at all. They created this situation. Again he has had multiple crashes in 4 races and he is the team leader LOL??? The myth of letting them race is here to roost for the team. They need to manage their drivers at times. It will be painful for them and the fans. Nature of F1.
If the situation is reversed then it appears they favor Max again over Ricci if they order Ricci to allow Max past. No win. They built this problem. They extended Max 1 year too soon I think. As if they care what I think LOL

 

In both cases, Baku 2018 and Spain 2012, the lead driver moves over to cover the inside line by the 2nd driver who is about to overtake, the 2nd driver moves to the outside to overtake and the 2nd move by the LEAD driver shadows the overtaking driver; both incidents resulting in a crash due to the braking zone, wash from the lead car thereby the 2nd car losing front end grip.

 

Senna usually only needed 1 move.
Japan. Turn 1. One single move into Prost

 

That one single move is why I have never put Senna on the pedestal that others have.

 

I agree stewards made the right call->Baku. The difference in both cases is the distance between the drivers.....Bruno/Michael(further apart between the moves) vs. Max/Ricci (closer together between the moves).

 

Also Rob, in both cases, I believe you're only allowed 1 defensive move according to the rules for 2012 and 2018. Now, Bruno was a rookie and Max is not. Whether that 2nd defensive maneuver is enforced is left up to the stewards giving said year.
