Well, there is no limit to human stupidity, this serves as another proof.
Don't know where these documents come from, but if sold by someone who stole them in France, according to Articles L 226-13 and 226-14 form the Penal Code, and L 1110-4 from the Code of Public Safety, the penalty for those involved and found guilty is one year in jail...plus of course a fair amount of money.
Prosecution and penalty would also be applied to anyone buying the documents in France.
I hope they will get caught and prosecuted, because this is really disgusting.

The theft could have been done here in France, at the Grenoble hospital, perhaps by intrusion into their IT System. A case has already been opened by the hospital as the plaintiff. Seems that the seller could ask for about 50.000 euros.
Sabine Kehm has warned that any, and each, press media that would publish anything will be prosecuted also. (Usually that does not suffice to deter them, but here as they would be dealing with medical documents, it could be different)

And people wonder why public Families keep to themselves in times like these and leave us to wonder.

The press, thieves etc. Exploit every opportunity.

Best for them to shut the door and limit what they can.

The district attorney, Jean-Yves Coquillat has given, this Tuesday June 24th, a few details on the enquiry (this as the Grenoble Hospital has opened a claim in court against the theft).
“Francetv info” has given a summary of what is known about this document’s theft at this time.

What are the contents of this document?
The said document is « about ten pages long ». It is a “summary of all the sequence of events that has happened during Michael Schumacher’s hospitalization in Grenoble”. A source said to be near the enquiry has specified to the AFP (Agence France Presse) that this summary has been written by Michael Schumacher’s doctor for the purpose of being given to the doctor of the Lausanne hospital where Michael is now attended.

To whom has this document being proposed after having being stolen?
"The person, or the persons, who had stolen the document has (have) entered contact with a number of french, swiss, and german journalists” says the district attorney. “This individual, who communicates by E-Mail, is asking for 60.000 swiss francs (about 50.000 euros) to provide the document. To prove that he has what he claim he will sell, he shows part of the report, and this allows us to think that he indeed has the report in his possession »

Where, or when, has it been stolen ?
The Police of Grenoble is now tracing all the « past whereabouts and itinerary » of this report, including an interrogation of each and every person that may have had access to it. But, for the time being, they do not have any proven fact yet. It is considered “probable” that the medical report was indeed stolen in Grenoble, but “this is not yet clearly established” explains the district attorney.

The Grenoble Hospital is also conducting a thorough internal audit to check for any possible intrusion in its IT database. The Hospital has taken extraordinary stringent dispositions to protect this file, and access to the room where MS was attended was under special protection by guards during the six months Michael stayed in Grenoble.

Sounds like it is the real deal then. I'm surprised actually at how little they want for it. Then again whoever buys this will also need a lot of $ in legal fees coming down the pipe

Went to a great function last night at a racing outfit that is also very involved with Ferrari. We had the opportunity to sign a giant Get Well poster for Schumi which they will be sending over to Switzerland to his family. I feel very priviledged and hope he will be able to read my message soon.

It's a shame but not surprising.

He's a high profile celebrity/athlete who had a major injury. Only releasing tiny bits of information about his condition over the course of several months is going to make people curious.

What's surprising to me is that someone is dumb enough to try and sell it. They'll get busted for sure.

When the family says they will file "damages" on every single case....what does that mean ?
What kind of damages, and how can you put a value on that?

Not sure about this: if they sell it to a website provider off shore (like those places that run gambling online), they could get away with it. The NSA whistleblower is still at large.

Two thoughts on the medical documents theft:
    1. There are some sick MFs out there. I like the thought of a sting operation, and it would work.
    2. Six months in a hospital including at least two surgeries and the summary is only ten pages long? A knee surgery would merit more than ten pages of info. Any physicians think this page figure is askew?

10 pages is more than enough for a summary of medical care provided as I wouldn't have thought there was much to write other than initial care. Most transfer documents are much shorter than that.
