The Schumacher's have always been a very private family. The experts said recovery (whatever may be defined as 'recovery') can take upto 3 years. I don't think he is in a permanent vegetative state though. When Sabine issued a press release telling the media that she has taken out an injunction so that anyone who reports unsubstantiated claims about Schumacher they will be sued, the media just backed off completely.
Excellent article - and makes you really appreciate the strides made in trackside care over the last 26 years

Geez Louise! I have a MS signed helmet and lots of pics I took of him during his career, which could be easily mounted like in these examples. No intention of selling. He is the #1 GOAT of the sport.
So very sad. I really was hoping he would have recovered at least some normal functions so he could enjoy his family. This is so unfair.
Surely Vettle of all people still sees him, you'd think he'd shed some light on his condition...... but, come to think of it, no one ever really asks it seems.
I wonder, since you brought up Vettel's name...if anyone is allowed, or even visited Michael, besides Bernie, Jean Todt, and Ross Brawn...
Vettle was/is like his little brother. No way in hell he isn't allowed to see him.... the pure lack of information can only mean his situation requires silent respect. It is almost macabre.

You do understand that speculation can only exist in the absence of facts right?.... on the planet I live on (Earth), saying nothing fuels speculation. He is probably more dead than alive and should have been set free on that ski slope.
+1 We know nothing about what's going on, and we've got to respect their desire for privacy. I remain hopeful that we'll see that smile again. Not going to give up hope. Godspeed Michael, Ian
I'm with FastIan on this one. All the wild speculation on what Michael would have wanted and what his wife should do is beyond absurd. Mrs. Schu gets blasted on FChat for keeping him alive with artificial means (a statement that itself is speculative) ... Really? What the hell is she supposed to do; let him suffocate or die of malnutrition? If she "pulled the plug" (either literally of metaphorically) and Michael passed away then people would be howling about how she fast tracked his demise so she could get the family fortune and go on with her life. When the Schumacher family is ready to tell us something, they will. Until then I will continue to hope for the best for them, for his racing extended family and for his fans.
And even if they tell the media how things stand for now it'll be weeks of speculation from anyone who wants their noise to be heard because they went to medical school for a semester, or know someone who was in the same situation (all head injuries are different so it won't be), or just have access to the Internet. +1
I wouldn't blast anybody for pulling the plug on anybody. A horrible decision to have to make but I'm a big quality of life person and I struggle to believe that Michael wants to live like this. So I do hope he is able to communicate to say he wants to continue this horrid situation ... I wish the very best for Michael, even though I do not know him, etc. Pete
Firstly, Michael is not connected to any machines. I believe he's breathing by himself, and not relying on any support. Secondly, when he crashed, he survived the crash. There's no reason any doctor should try to kill him or end whatever he's going through. He survived, and was put into a coma for 6 months, with a rough timeline of 3 years recovery. I don't understand why people are assuming Corinna can pull the plug...What plug??
If this has already been posted, then pardon my redundancy. If this is true then it's purely sad: Michael Schumacher 'Cries' When He Hears Family's Voices, Is Unable To Move, Speak: Report excerpt: Michael Schumacher, the seven-time Formula One racing champion, who suffered massive head injuries in a skiing accident in December 2013, is responding to external stimuli, but is unable to speak or move, according to reports. Schumacher, who left hospital to return to his home in Switzerland after nine months of treatment, spends much of his time "looking into the void," according to a report in Autosprint magazine, cited by the Times of London. Alberto Sabbatini, Autosprint's editor, told the paper that “sometimes a tear rolls down Michael’s face. He cries when he hears the voice of his children or [his wife] Corinna.” Sabbatini added, however, that the racing star is still unable to communicate meaningfully with his family: “It shows that he feels emotion; that his brain works. It is the only way his strong character is able to externally convey an emotion,” he said, according to the Times. Sabbatini claimed that Autosprint's information was collected "as objectively as possible," based on "reliable and verified information" from "those who know and have seen him recently and are aware of his clinical status," according to Motorsport.com.
According to Sabine Kehm, the latest news for Schumi's health is improvement are the following: "We are happy to say still he does improvement and I say this always considering the severeness of the injury he had. But of course it will take a very long time for everybody involved to fight, and we are happy to take this fight."
