I can't imagine that, really. 100 000 Eur for the greater public to know about his health? Seems like too generous a sacrifice for some mediocre magazine for mediocre people. Go on their website and you know what their business is about: BUNTE.de | Leidenschaft für Menschen I'd rather guess they got fooled and paid some clown for that info.
I know Bunte and they dont strike me as that devious. Then again 100k is chump change for them, particularly with all the free propaganda they are getting now. Story is even on CNN
+1 Some celebrities are worth more dead than alive. In fact, the announcement of their death bring them back in the floodlights when they are half forgotten. Just look at Elvis, John Lennon, etc... Their estate made a fortune AFTER their death. Just ask Priscilla Presley !!! I don't think Schumacher memorabilia would stop selling, in fact, his death would boost the sales. And even if they stopped making them, they would become priceless collection items, and people would fight on e-Bay to purchase them!!!
Music can be repurchased over and over again so that new generations are discovering the biggies for decades. There are simply not as many people watching old video of races. You can't compare the two at all. And sales on ebay are secondary markets. They don't benefit the primary source of the merchandise. But let's feel free to disagree.
Look at all the Senna memorabilia. At Spa he had even his own memorabilia stand. Right next to MS. I dont think commerce is the driving force for the media blockade by the family.
I still disagree, but if it is true that privacy is the objective, then it's a foolhardy one. Reporters will never leave his son alone, so short of hiring bodyguards to walk around him every second of every day, they need to expect that he will constantly be asked about his father's condition. If I were his mother, I'd release a statement so that my child didn't have to take the brunt of that. And everyone can complain that it's crap to harass a kid, etc. and I'm not saying it's nice, but it's reality.
No disagreement on this. BTW: they have already established a policy that Mick will answer any questions except about his fathers health
That is almost egotistical. Do they really think paparazzi care about their family "policy"? Bigger names than them have tried to avoid that circus. Princess Diana comes to mind...
All Mick needs to do is study Kimi's interviews and he will be fine lol.... Otherwise a very difficult position to be in because the family probably can't disclose anything to their friends etc in case someone who said something to someone opens their mouth - hopefully true friends will understand their predicament. Best, Sammy
Mick races and doesn't have a huge amount of attention, no questions either. Though I'm sure journo's will have been told specifically not to ask questions...he doesn't get the TMZ type ''reporting''. Seems to me the strategy has worked somewhat.
Nah, not even close. EVERYBODY knew Diana. Only F1 fans know MS. Anybody questioning that on here should just ask their GF. Particularly if they live in the US. MS enjoyed vacas in the US where nobody knew him (I happened to talk directly to a guy who rented him a Harley for a drive from Vegas to Indy). Diana had to go on a private yacht into the middle of the ocean to be away from people.
I've wondered about this. I don't think total loss of anonymity would be worth it, even for that kind of success. A few GP wins, that might be the sweet spot.
Totally agreed. Once everybody knows your face life gets very restricted Decades ago a surgeon told me that making money is great but only to the point where you are still an anonymous face. By now I understand what he meant and agree
Plenty of very weathy people are anonymous. People who are rich by being public figures are the ones who must endure this. It's not the money, it's the profession or the desire to be known. A buddy works for a billionaire builder/developer in NYC, no one knows his face - obviously not Trump.
Not disagreeing in the least. Good 4 them. Given a choice I'd rather be rich and not famous (not that I am either ).
This is exactly why I love being an author. Unless you're Stephen King, etc. you don't have to worry about people accosting you in public, even if millions have bought your books. And yes, Diana is much bigger than MS. Sorry, but if I asked any of my friends or family who MS was, they wouldn't know. Everyone, down to the children who weren't even born before she died, still know who Diana was.
My experience has been many wealthy people are fanatical about their privacy. Many have seen fellow travelers step into the public arena with very bad results. In fact, many of them donate large sums of money to both political parties. Without getting P&R, this is what makes the Koch brothers so interesting. It doesn't pay to fight city hall when they have the IRS and the DOJ.
+1 Drive a car like a LaFerrari, P1, any Pagani in a city like London or LA. All the ****ing cameras and kids chasing you taking pictures. That's exactly what it's like when you're famous. Sounds like hell to me. (I'm regretting using my name as forum name. And I'm neither rich or famous)
the myth is that you have to be famous to have wealth. Its part of our popular culture. The truth is that people often have to choose between wealth and being famous. They don't always come together. When they do its common for someone to lose their wealth as the try to remain famous.
