A couple of years ago i bought a mondial from ebay in scotland that was badged as a fiat x/19. I have not done much with it as jet and was wondering if any of you know anything about it. I have traced the chassis number to 39099 and think to reg number should be JTS101X. Any help ? Im sure it is the worst Mondial in the world. I have loads of pictures if anyone is interested.

As an owner of multiple X1/9's.....how, or moreover, why would anyone badge a Mondial as a Fiat X1/9? Both rear engined, but that's about it. Some folks, huffing and puffing to evoke the "exotic swag" will refer to X1/9s or Spiders as "same company as Ferrari" or some other intimating remarks, but this seems in the opposite direction!

Others still seem to like to characterize the X as a 'baby Ferrari'....some misguided soul in Australia posted a web site saying that Fiat got it all wrong when they didn't put the Dino engine in the X1/9 as it would have been a great car in that form, never mind that it would
have been too expensive. Well...they ultimately did build such a car....but it was an improvement of the X1/9 design and called the Lancia Stratos, a redoubtable, multiple world champion, rally car.

Historically speaking, Fiat's upper management lambasted both Nuccio Bertone and chief designer Marcello Gandini as "just trying to create a baby Miura" with regards to the X1/9 as Bertone/Gandini were responsible for that 60's era car.

Beyond that....no connection between the Mondial and the X1/9 historically speaking.
